Lincoln City will definitely be heading back to Bury's Gigg Lane next season after they lost the Playoff Semi Finals on penalties to Shrewsbury Town. Shrewsbury won the match 1-0 to take it to penalties and then progressed 4-3 on penalties.
Leading from the first leg and knowing that Shrewsbury had only won three times on the road all season, it looked as though Bury would be going through in normal time, but Shrewsbury's McIntyre gave the Shrews the lead in the final two minutes on the day, making it 1-1 on aggregate. LeslIe was sent off 10 seconds into added on time but there be no more goals between the sides and the game headed to penalties.
PENALTIES
1-0 Barry-Murphy (Bury) - SCORED
1-1 Ben Davies (Shrewsbury) - SCORED
2-1 Mike Jones (Bury) - SCORED
2-2 Moses Asikodi (Shrewsbury) - SCORED
2-2 Danny Racchi (Bury) - MISSED
2-3 Kevin McIntyre (Shrewsbury) - SCORED
3-3 Elliott Bennett (Bury) - SCORED
3-4 David Worrall (Shrewsbury) - SCORED
Then came the vital penalty and Andy Bishop MISSED his penalty and now Shrewsbury will make their second Wembley appearance in three seasons. Much like that previous season that they made the Final, it could easily be the case where the two lowest finishers out of the four make the Final, but Shrewsbury should be wary as the last two teams to win semi-finals on penalties have gone on to lose the final, Mansfield and Rochdale.
