Imps at home to Barnsley

Lincoln City will face Barnsley in the first round of the Carling Cup. The Tykes only avoided relegation to League One on the final day of last season and it makes this game very winnable for a City side who have been away in the first round for the past three seasons.

It is the first time City have had a tie at home in the Carling Cup since beating Crewe 5-1 in 2005/6, the last time City won a knock-out competition game of any variety. It will also be the first chance that Peter Jackson will have a chance of avenging the defeat that his Huddersfield side suffered against Barnsley in the League One Playoffs during that same season.

Although it is one of the few games where a League Two side faces a Championship side at home, the game is unlikely to feature on Sky due to Darlington facing Leeds United, two sides who seem guaranteed to be on TV.

Other highlights of the round see Burton travel to Reading, Barnet have a local derby at home to Watford and Shrewsbury host Ipswich.
