Gutless City fall flat

Lincoln City put in one of the most gutless and lazy home performances seen at Sincil Bank for several years, seeing Burton Albion cruise to a 2-0 win without ever really having to struggle to get there. The game also saw the first example of mass "Jackson Out" chanting.

It's fast becoming tradition at Lincoln that the Imps put in pathetically bad performances on Saturday afternoons. The last decent Saturday afternoon came with a 2-0 win over Accrington towards the end of last season, since then the performances against Luton, Exeter, Shrewsbury, Aldershot, Barnet, Accrington and now Burton have all been pathetic, lacklusture and boneidle.

The visitors dominated early on and made their dominance of the game count when they won a corner midway through the first half, the ball floated in and a completely unmarked Ryan Austin headed straight at Burch, the goalkeeper effectively ducking under it and allowing it to enter the net. Austin was supposed to be getting marked by John-Lewis, but the striker's unenthusiastic and lazy performance saw all of that come as no surprise.

City then actually managed to enter the Burton half when Butcher's long range effort was easily saved and Fagan hit a ball well over the goal.

The second half was better for City but chances came few and far between every single midfielder was trying too hard to beat all of the Burton defence on their own. City were down at out. With just seconds of added on time left, Russell Penn sent a volley over Burch and into the net to secure a win for a Burton side who wouldn't have even needed to break into a sweat to beat City.

Jackson's reaction to the game was focused around the reaction of the fans, most of whom voiced their frustrations with booing and a section of the crowd calling for his head. He acknowledged his record at Sincil Bank wasn't the best, and could be the first signs that he is now feeling the pressure to get results.
