Today is the day (apparantly)

According to Bob Dorrian, today is the day when the Imps will finally appoint their new manager. The search has been going for almost four weeks and with some names remaining in the process throughout, one or two have entered at the late stage and it could be anyone's guess as to whom it is going to be.

The five candidates remaining are Gary Brabin, Jon Pemberton, Simon Davey, Simon Clark and most surprisingly of all, Chris Sutton. Whilst Brabin and Pemberton have been long standing favourites to get the job, the mention of Sutton's name in the Lincolnshire Echo has thrown an unusual element into the mix.

Sutton is the only candidate never to have managed a match out of the five. Simon Davey would more than likely only be appointed because of his ability to create cup runs, Brabin has had two promotion challenging campaigns in the last two years with two different clubs, Pemberton has enormous success as reserve level, where Simon Clark has been in charge of the Imps for almost a month, but is unlikely to get it due to the fact he has lost 3 of the 4 matches in charge, with performances being on par with the Jackson era.

The announcement is due this afternoon and the arguable favourite at this point is Gary Brabin, who although was apparently not given a second interview, was at the game on Saturday with Stuart Bimson, meaning a potential management team of two ex-City players. Not being granted a second interview could simply mean that he did enough in his first interview to convince the board he as a great candidate.

Pemberton also stands an excellent chance due to his reputation as at Forest as a great reserve manager with good man-management skills. The only obstacle that you could forsee in Pemberton's way if he is appointed is that reserve team success doesn't necessarily turn into first team success, as several ex-Imps (such as Ollie Ryan and Adam Kerley) can testify.
