City through after difficult Telford test

Lincoln City's name will be in the 2nd Round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2003 after the Imps overcame a fairly decent Telford side 3-1, a repeat of the scoreline between the sides on their last meeting. City took the lead through Torres with Clarke and Brown securing the win after a Telford equaliser.

The hosts kicked off and they quickly got on the Imps case but failed to really create any decent early chances and it was a City corner that created the game's first chance, well I say chance, it just missed everyone's heads. Fagan hit an effort over the bar before Jamie Clarke hit a curling effort wide. Howe had a shot blocked by Telford's young goalkeeper.

City may have been having less in terms of possession but it was the Imps who were creating  the chances and Jamie Clarke came close to his first ever goal for the Imps, only see it driven away. It wasn't long before the Imps took a deserved lead as Jamie Clarke played the ball out to the right and Sergio Torres blasted it across goal and into the bottom right hand corner.

The Imps started to sit on the lead and Telford finally started coming into the game when they forced a corner, but Burch had no worries as Trainer headed wide for the hosts. Jon Adams fouled Torres in a moment of lucky for City as it would have seen Rodgers break through. Shane Clarke soon headed over for City.

A very rash challenge on Torres saw Rodgers entering the book before the Imps wasted a corner. That was the final chance before half time.

City started the second half well by winning a corner and forcing the odd save, but it wasn't long before Telford's first shot on target in the game produced a goal as Adam's sent a cross into the area and it was met by Blakeman, his header just went beyond the reach of Burch and it was 1-1 and game on.

In typical Lincoln style, it appeared as though there was only going to be one winner from that point onwards as Telford dominated the next ten minutes Newton hit a free kick straight at Burch, and the Lincoln keeper had to be at his best to deny Trainer from long range effort. A rare City break forward in the second half saw Howe eventually lay the ball off to Jamie Clarke and Peter Jackson's first signing of the summer scored his first goal in City colours.

Howe was booked for persistent fouling but as quickly as City had scored out of the blue, Telford almost pulled back immediately as Rodgers sent a volley goalwards from 30 yards, it came bouncing off the underside of the bar after a fine Burch save and somehow stayed out.

Jamie Clarke went off for John-Lewis up front but before the substitute had even touched the ball, the Imps were 3-1 up as Aaron Brown also scored his first goal of the season as he sent a left footed thunderbolt into the goal and now it was the Imps who were well in control.

It wasn't all one way traffic now though as Telford's need for a goal opened the game up, Vaughn had an effort well save by Burch and Newton also managed to hit both bar and post from a free kick. Neither side came close to scoring and the Imps, at the 22^nd attempt, finally won a knock-out game.
