The worst teams in either club's history draw a blank

It was a poor game between arguably the worst team in either club's history, but the Imps and Grimsby Town drew a blank in a game with very few clear cut chances. The Imps have now failed to score in eleven matches this season, and yet we only seem intend on bringing in half-rate midfielders and defenders to this club. Both sides are destined for low finishes this season.
Grimsby kicked off the game kicking towards the Stacey West stand, and that was as exciting as it got for a while as it took 10 minutes for the first half-chance to come, the ball was played to Jamie Clarke and he produced a clever flick to get past Bore, only for the Grimsby defender to bring him down, the Grimsby man was booked. Leary quickly joined him in the book after a foul on Kerr.
The first goalscoring chance of the game came in the 27th minute from Khano Smith crossed the ball and after a bit of fumbling around by the Grimsby defence, Pulis pounced and shot it over. Grimsby's first chance saw Danny North attempt to boot it in the net from 30 yards, only to see it go well wide of the target.
There were shouts of a penalty just before half time for the visitors after Sweeney went down under challenges from Burch and Hughton, only for the referee to ignore the shouts. That was the final action of a first half that showed just how poor both sides are.
The second half had slightly more chances and the first falling to Grimsby as Linwood hitting the ball just beyond the post. The lack of major action resulted in Howe replacing the ineffective Fagan. Clarke hit a shot straight at Colgan for the Imps before Grimsby made their first substitution, North replaced by Akpa-Akpro.
City launched a promising counter attack following a Grimsby corner and Smith ran forward with the ball with the Imps being 4 on 2 against the defenders. However, despite having three players up with him, Smith decided to selfishly go on his own and shot well wide.
Tanner had to be replaced 20 minutes from time as referee and Fletcher took over. Within seconds and the Imps were unlucky not to take the lead when a corner was floated in, Watts booted it goalwards and only Sweeney on the line prevented the Imps taking a lead. McRory hit over from 30 yards before Conlon replaced Coulson for the visitors.
Pulis hit an effort wide before Sweeney was booked for a foul on Smith. Neither team really looked like scoring a goal and the Imps had been stopped from scoring for a shocking 11th time this season.....and yet our manager, a former striker himself, refuses to get a striker.

Go on then....YOU go and get the strikers in.
You can't? That's a surprise isn't it.
Time to leave this board probably.
I suppose you think it's good that we haven't scored in 11 games this season then?
I've said all along that if you don't like what other people say on this board, then you're welcome to leave, or at least not have a "I've played at this level (supposedly) so I must know more than you" attitude.
If it happens again how much will you be coming up with Nathan?
Yes, it's@#$%&but it's my near £12k and those of many others who enable you to watch this crap.
Money where mouth is, please.
And funnily enough, when we were 24 hours from being bust in 2002 (even Rob Bradley declared on Sky Sports that we were that close to going bust), I was 17, was attending college and had never had a job, yet I put £300 (all that was in my account at the time) into the club.
Or how about those 1,500 fans that summer that paid for season tickets for the 2002/3 when it didn't even look like we'd have a club, I suppose they don't deserve credit because they didn't pay £12,000 into the club?
So before you get on your high horse and act like you're better than everyone else again, at least get your facts right about everyone else and don't just assume that you're better than them because you donated £12,000 before they were even born.

Sorry that I was only born in 1984 and wasn't around for that period that you're refering to. I'll make sure I question my parents the next time I see them!

Carry on taking the pee out of Imps Mr Message Board Warrior.
Funnily enough, a keyboard warrior is someone who hides behind an internet username (such as oldimpsfan) to criticise and slag off others, I use my real name. I've told some players to their face exactly what I think of them in the past.
Plus, I thought you were leaving (your own words)? You're not Stuart McCall are you?

Great debating skills and all that.
Haven't scored in 11 games this season, would have been 12 if it wasn't for a very fortunate penalty at Macclesfield.
We have only kept 7 clean sheets this season.
Have lost all but one game in which we've conceded first
Only 5 wins at home this calendar year
Failed to score in 17 games this calendar year
Have only won 2 games in the last 11 matches
Our strikers have only scored 9 goals between them, 2 of which were penalties
Our leading goalscorer has only scored in two games from open play.
There you go, eight FACT to prove we're shite......I challenge you to provide eight that show that we aren't. I mean FACTS, not just your opinion.
I await your immature and "I'm better than you" style reply.
Everyone as an opinion whether you put in 12000 or 12p or have been going for 50 years ot 5 mins. I might not have played at league 2 level but if my opinion is Smith is shite I have a right to say it and a right to cheer if Im proved wrong!!!
I was misinformed and happy with our point today.
Thing is that if you go back through my old reactions, you'll find plenty of examples of me critcising a player heavily when they've played badly, but I'm happy to say they've played well when they've done well.
Come on though, you're the one who started this debate, I've done my half by providing you with FACTS to show why I believe I am correct when I say we're shite, you've yet to provide one fact that you believe suggests otherwise.
Problem is that when we do get a run going of several games without a defeat, we don't win many. Case in point being January, I'm pretty certain we were unbeaten in January but only actually won one match.
Don't get me wrong, we're not losing many, but it begs the old question of would you rather draw three in a row or win one and lose two? That's the problem, we may not lose but we're not winning and at some point, Grimsby will win and come to within mere points of us.
Then again, win on Tuesday (which would be our first points against ROtherham since they came into the division) and we could realistically go as high as 16th if results go our way.

Rotherham : Won their last four against us, in which we have scored three goals, conceding eight.
Port Vale : Won their last two visits to Sincil Bank, we beat them last year but they're doing better under Adams.
Crewe : Possibly the winnable game as they have the exact same record at home that we do away (2 wins, 6 defeats). They're not doing it under Gradi.
Hereford : Out of form but still above us, will be a tricky one.
Chesterfield : One of the form teams in the division and scoring for fun.
Darlington : They've won twice at home in recent weeks, not as easy as it might seem.
Something we seem to forget when we all shout that we want value for money, is that this is a business.
Businesses go through rough times and good times. Thats the way of the world.
Just so happens that money is tight and that is showing.
The bottom line is that a club called Lincoln City exists in the lower half of the Second Division. If we want it to continue to exist and to improve then it can't be done without money. And if we haven't got the money then we have to get the best out of what we have.
Sutton has my support. I happen to think he is doing ok in a difficult situation. If we keep picking up a few draws and the odd win we will live to fight another day. I happen to think that when he does get it right, if he is given the time, it could be very good.
He is completely inexperienced in managing a League 2 football team, especially one left in a state post Jackson, so must be given time to learn his craft! He has taken on what his probably his biggest challenge, but the major plus so far is that on the whole we've stopped shipping goals ..... so while I watched yesterday (in despair at times) I will take this one positive with me to Northwich next Saturday for what I believe is our most important (financially) game in years.
Overall though, my love for the club I've adored for 35 odd years wanes with each miserable season.

If it happens again how much will you be coming up with Nathan?
Yes, it's@#$%&but it's my near £12k and those of many others who enable you to watch this crap.
Fair play to you for doing that. When was this-it could have been 1982 or more likely around 1965 when Frank Eccleshare took over.Either way £12,000 was worth a lot more then than it is now.
Did you donate this to the club or buy shares ?
The club is in need of further investment now and needs to attract both small and large investors.
The point I am trying to make is that many people made considerable financial sacrifices to ensure that the club kept going - and now celebrates our 125th anniversary.
Loyal fans continue to support it. We all know our club is at a very low point - perhaps almost as low as the season we were relegated to the Conference, although I suspect that team in the second half of the season was marginally worse than the one we have now.
It is not realistic to pass judgment on ANY manager after the matter of a few weeks. We all know what he has inherited and he is going to need time to repair the situation.
To expect an instant result with players he has never met and never worked with is simply not feasible. The one thing he has done, it would appear, is to shore up the defence which is always a good way to start because if you don't concede a goal you don't lose.
I think you will find that his next concentration will be trying to get in players who can actually find the back of the net which is our next major problem. That's why he is trying to bring in the youngster from Northern Ireland who, according to U21 International reports, has real pace. That would help.
I cannot say that Chris Sutton is going to be a successful manager for us but, equally, I would argue that no one can say either that he won't be, particularly after just a few weeks.
We have two very hard matches coming up and we need everyone to get behind the team as much as they can. We have been in far worse situations than this - and far better, too - but we are where we are and I am confident CS over a period of time is capable of creating a Lincoln side far better than the one we currently have.
Saturday was a dire game, everyone knows that, but we kept a clean sheet and got a point out of it against an equally dire side. But it was also a side absolutely ravaged by injury and, personally, I took the point as a plus.
At least we are not several points adrift at the bottom, and I think we can be confident that the attack will be the area that will be strengthened in the January window.
We are picking up the odd point here and there (albeit by uninspiring draws) but every single one of them is vital at this stage and should be treated as a bonus.

Sutton has been quite clever......he knows forwards and he knows how to score goals. He is not a defender so who does he bring as his number 2 a VERY good defender (in his time)....he is learning how to keep clean sheets and has brought players in to help him achieve that.
I can guarantee strikers will come in January......people do not want to lose forwards so with the FA Cup money....I bet a couple of decent strikers will be coming in.....defence will be sorted by then and then the goals come. I can see his thinking but the midfield and the lack of creativity could be a hindrance.
Nathan and oldimps - you are both right, please kiss and make up and play nice!!! £12k is a huge amount of money to donate to the cause as is £300 when you don't work. Well done guys.
Will it?
What happens after January? Don't we lose all four of the defenders we have brought in on loan?
Will we be starting all over again?
