Negative Imps get the point they went for

Lincoln City's negative performance showed they went to Crewe with the intention of settling for a point, and they got it thanks to Crewe hitting 100% of their 17 shots off target. The Imps never really looked like scoring, but neither did Crewe and the Imps will be happy with a point given that Grimsby picked up a point themselves.
In a game when City may not have had many chances, but enjoyed the better chances, they will be happy to go away with a point as Crewe strikers failed to convert any of their 17 shots, all of which went off target. Crewe's wayward finishing started early as they hit the bar. Other than that though, most of the opening ten or so minutes had City with the ball. Scott Kerr forced Phillips into a save from 25 yards. Clarke had an effort deflected out and that was about as attacking as City got during the game.
Westwood curled a free kick wide before Mitchel-King headed wide for the Railwaymen. Donaldson couldn't convert from close range but it wasn't long before the hosts had a penalty claim turned down after Murphy went down theatrically in the area. The last chance of the first half was a bit of a fluke with Mitchel-King booting a clearance onto the back of Clarke, the ball sailing back towards the Crewe goal and only just went over the bar.
Herd was booked within a minute of the second half after a late challenge. Brayford hit over for the hosts before Kerr hit the roof of the net from 25 yards. Westwood had a shot blocked by Kerr before Shane Clarke hit a shot low and hard, but it went wide.
It was a slow second half wide good chances at a premium, both managers going for wins with just over 15 minutes to go, Moore and Shelley replacing Grant and Murphy before John-Lewis made his first league appearance under Sutton, replacing Jamie Clarke.
John-Lewis was right into the action and almost scored within seconds of coming on, heading over from close range. He also had a shot blocked on the edge of the box, but neither side could come up with a winner in a game that showed both sides are decent(ish) at the back but lack a striker who can score on a regular basis.

When you build a house or even a palace, you start with the right foundations.
& even a modest semi, let alone a Rome is/was not built in a day.
Spin it anyway your want, but no wins in 8 League games is not a good thing and Sutton has yet to prove he is capable of getting results.
.... but a good away point at Gresty road is progrees from the dire away performances earlier this season.
For me a good point.
But what do I know I've only watched for them nearly 28 years!
We are ok for a while then rubbish for a while.
Its always been like that the sooner some people realise that the better.
We were spoilt for a few seasons we have reverted to type.
At least we've got to the 3rd round of the FA cup this year!
UP THE IMPS!
My first games were in the 70's so like you I've learned patience.
Success under Taylor, & twice under Murphy .... the thrill ofthe play offs with Alexander.....
The city is growing (long term trend, recession apart) & the club can too.
Sutton is a gamble but one perservering with. I think one or two of the temporary supports may turn in to long term cornerstones and buttresses of a more elegant structure than we have enjoyed fr some time!
We are not good enough to come out and open teams up for 90 minutes away from home, we need points - today is classed as a good result.
Poor article.
For example, LJL found himself in Crewe's half with about 10 minutes to go, he was surrounded by 6 Crewe players and not one City player went up and helped him.
City had one intention today and that was getting a point, very rarely being advertureous and going for a goal.
No one had a poor game. Baker was the least convincing (playing out of position) and Brown made the team better when he game on after Baker's injury.
The opening spell was our best and we did sit back and let them come at us for most of the game. We found it difficult to transition from defence to attack and rarely threatened.
That said, for all their possession in our half, Crewe rarely looked like scoring.
Generally, quite an entertaining 0-0 draw. If we were mid-table I would have been quite content, but sitting where we are we need to win games.
The stats are quite clear, we have the 7th best defensive record (goals conceded) in the league and the second worse offensive record.
We need to score goals and it is difficult to see where they are going to come from.

Think I was a little spoilt as my first two seasons we finished 4th and 6th in the old third division, they were a hell of a team!
Nearly all of them went to play at the top I think or least the level above with I think the exception of Phil Neale.
So all other Lincoln sides I've seen since have to live upto to that level and none have so far!
Sutton has been in post for just two months and to given a fair crack of the whip.
We do have a major problem upfront we all know that, but a decent striker will cost money like Le Fondre costing rovram 150k.
So do we blow all the cup run on one striker? I dont know maybe.
I'm not happy with things who is? But we have to be patient.
We created plenty of chances on Tuesday but didn't take and yesterday we dug in and got a point, vital in our position.
Knowing Lincoln as we all do we probably beat the leaders next week!
UP THE IMPS AND KEEP THE FAITH!
Oxford did it several years in a row.
Standard away team tactic for me, especially at this level.
I remember some years back when KA 'stopped the rot' with an unbeaten run that started with three successive draws and, if I am not mistaken, that happened after Christmas, which led us to (eventually) the play offs.
