Burch to be highest paid player at Sincil Bank?

Rob Burch has been offered the biggest contract at Sincil Bank that will not only make him the highest paid current player, but one of the highest paid players in the club's history. It is a desperate attempt to keep the young goalkeeper as he could walk out for free in the summer.

At 26 years old, any club could tempt Rob Burch to come to them without the trouble of having to agree compensation fees with Lincoln City. In recent years, City have lost a lot of stars on free transfers at the end of their contract (some of which entitled City to compensation). Those players include Gareth McAuley and Dany N'Guessan.

According to the Lincolnshire Echo, Burch has been offered one of the biggest contracts in the club's history. Burch took over from Marriott, whom was believed to be on nearly £2,000 per week at the time he left the club.

With teams such as Everton, Burnley and Doncaster Rovers all interested in Burch, it's a case of all or nothing for City. If Burch accepts the new deal then it would mean that if one of those clubs wanted him this summer then they would be forced to pay a fee, otherwise Burch can easily walk for free.

The most likely chasers of Burch's signature are to be Doncaster Rovers. Although they have the back up of ex-Imp Ben Smith, the fact they keep sending him out on loan shows that he doesn't feature in their long term plans. Neil Sullivan isn't getting any younger either and given that the peak of a goalkeeper's career is usually between 27 and 32, this could be the ideal time to get Rob Burch.

Although most Imps fans are desperate for Burch to stay, the majority are resigned to Burch leaving. He was recently voted as the 8th best player for City over the last ten years in a recent poll on this website, showing how much the fans think to him.
