City get that much needed win!

Lincoln City's 11 week wait for a win finally came to an end as the Imps put in a confident performances to beat Chesterfield 2-1. Hughton and Facey had given the Imps the advantage, but a late goal pulled one back for City just minutes before Jack Lester missed a penalty.

Chesterfield started the game well before Kieran Djilali hitting the ball out for a City goal kick. Chesterfield had a claim for a penalty turned down before they forced the first corner, the ball being cleared. The best chance Chesterfield had to open the scoring came as a ball into the box was headed goalwards by Small, only to see it go wide. That was as good as it would get for Chesterfield for a long time.

City started getting on the offensive and Hughton had the first shot of the game for the Imps, although it was blocked by Perkins. Oakes tested Crossley from range just minutes before Chris Herd only just went wide from distance. Gilmour's effort was saved by Crossley but it wasn't long before the Imps took the lead. Oakes played the ball to Facey and he hit it first time on the outside of his right foot, the ball was floated in any Hughton headed it into the net for his first goal in a Lincoln City shirt.

It was also City now and it was quickly 2-0 as Oakes played the ball into the box and Facey floated his area over Crossley  and into the net. It was the first time City had been 2-0 up at home since the game against Chesterfield last season.

City were dominating the play and even though Chesterfield got the odd chance but none were looking like they were going in, only a Jack Lester header that hit the bar coming close to going in. The half ended with big cheers from City fans.

Drew Talbot came on for Kevin Austin at half time for Chesterfield and City also replaced Baker with Swaibu. Swaibu quickly got involved as he cleared a Chesterfield chance. Facey could have made it 3-0 but his effort from the corner of the box curled just wide of the target.

The second half wasn't as fill of chances as the first and the next came on the hour mark as Talbot had a header saved by Burch. Infact, Chesterfield were now the team creating most of the attacking play as City seemed content with a two goal lead. Infact, it was City who came closest to the next goal as both Hughton and Gilmour had shots blocked. Niven was booked for a foul on Niven before Scott Boden pulled a goal back for Chesterfield with a low effort seven minutes from time.

Within two minutes and Chesterfield had a great chance to get back into the game. Despite being second best most of the match, Chesterfield's chance came when Talbot went to ground and the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Jack Lester, a man who had scored in every one of his games against City for Chesterfield and he......blasted over, a just outcome given Chesterfield had deserved nothing from the match.

The remainder of the game went without incident and City had recorded their first win since October 10^th.
