2009 : Another year, more disappointment - November

November was a mixed month for City, three poor League performances were countered by two cup wins against Telford and Northwich to progress to the third round of the FA Cup for the first time since the 1998/9 season. Other than that it was a pretty quiet month at Sincil Bank.

It's never exactly news-filled during the later months of the calendar year. Matches become rarities because of the weather and the transfer window is closed, meaning that not many players can come in to the club. This was the case this November as the first piece of newsworthy incident came on the 7^th as City headed to Shropshire.

After more than four years of waiting, City finally progressed in a cup competition, winning 3-1 at the expense of Telford United. Torres gave City the lead before Telford equalised with pretty much their first shot on goal. Clarke and Brown both opened their accounts for the season. However, City would come under scrutiny on the internet as numerous Telford fans claimed that we scored with our only chances, that despite us forcing the same amount of shots (16) as the hosts. There's nothing quite like sore losers. City were drawn against Northwich in the next round.

Pulis' loan spell from Southampton was extended and Michael Gordon joined on a free transfer from non-League football. He made his debut in a rather dull affair against Cheltenham. Justin Richards gave the Robins the lead before Jamie Clarke drew City level, the only game to date this season where City have fallen behind and gained anything from the game.

However, the game will be more remembered for what happened ten minutes from time. Aaron Brown was sent off for the Imps and this sparked outrage on the bench as Chris Sutton was sent the stands and after a brawl, Ian Pearce also saw red for his involvement with Cheltenham's Barry Richardson, the keeper also seeing red.

A rather dull derby against Grimsby Town followed. There was only one decent chance in the entire game with Adam Watt's effort being blocked on the line. This was quickly followed by the annual defeat at Rotherham, this time losing 2-0 thanks to a Le Fondre double.

Chris Herd joined on loan from Villa, whereas Delroy Facey also signed up from Notts County on a month's deal. Only Herd would play in City's FA Cup game at Northwich and much like the first round, City weren't given the credit they deserved. City took the lead through Fagan and dominated most of the first half. Bailey equalised just after half time before a Jamie Clarke double gave City the win they deserved.

The noteworthy news of November was that the Imps would face Bolton in the Third Round of the FA Cup.
