Back to the League for the Imps

Lincoln City will return to League action after now being eliminated from all of the cup competitions. It will be a massive month for the Imps with five games currently on the cards, most of which are winnable.

Now that City have been eliminated from the cups, it's down the main priority of the League and City have an interesting looking fixture list for January. It all starts with the visit of Accrington Stanley next Saturday.

In their current guise, Accrington gained their first ever win over the Imps earlier this season with a 1-0 win on August 15th. Stanleyu have also been on fine form this season and despite being most people's favourites for the drop, they currently find themselves 11th and just three points off of the League Two Playoffs. They have also recently won at Notts County, something that the vast majority haven't managed this year.

After that comes the delayed match at Burton Albion followed by free-falling Barnet, inconsistent Bradford and the out of form Dagenham and Redbridge. It is also likely that one of, if not both, of our postponed games at Hereford and Darlington will be re-arranged for one of those days.

Only Darlington have played fewer games in the division than the Imps, and the two teams that sandwich the Imps have both played twice more than City. Grimsby Town haven't won since September 19th, so you'd expect them to win a game at some point in the near-future.

Grimsby's January reads as an away trip on Saturday to Crewe and the massive six pointer against Cheltenham a week later. Failure to win that game could spell the end for Grimsby Town. This is followed a week later by an extremely difficult trip to Rotherham United. They end the month away at Aldershot.
