Watts joined the Imps from Fulham following a successful loan spell from the Cottagers. An imposing defender, Watts has impressed many during his time at Sincil Bank so far, most of whom were delighted he signed a two and a half year contract in the New Year.

Adam Watts became Chris Sutton' s first ever signing for the Imps, joining on loan from Fulham at the back end of September 2009. The tall defender went straight into the first team and it was obvious why he had played in the Europa League earlier in the season for the Cottagers. Despite having no regular partner at the back, Watts was instrumental in the beginning of several quick-succession clean sheets.

His loan spell was extended and there was a slight hint that Fulham would be willing to release him long term as they allowed him to play in the FA Cup. His loan spell was eventually made permanent just after the New Year he will be at the club until 2012.

Watts continued the 2009/10 season in fine form but an away game at Grimsby effectively ended his season after breaking his leg.

He returned for the 2010/11 season and started the season slowly due to only just recovering from his injury. His season didn't start well and he came under increasing scrutiny as his partnership with Moses Swaibu proved to be a poor one, however, when Danny Hone returned to the side, he and Watts formed a good partnership.

Watts scored his first ever goal for the Imps in a 4-3 win away at Stockport County. It helped to the first of five straight wins, but Watts was inevitably part of a defence that conceded for fun at the end of the season, including defeats of 6-0 to Rotherham, 4-0 to Gillingham and 3-0 against Aldershot.

Because he was under contract, Watts was still with the club for the following season, but he became victimised by fans and some very actively encouraging abuse being sent to him after a mistake lead to City losing to Alfreton in the FA Cup qualifying rounds. That would turn out to be his final appearances for the Imps and he eventually joined Gainsborough.
