Loan in Review : Chris Herd

After picking up an injury against Notts County, it has been confirmed that Herd's season is over and thus brings to end six months of energy, entertainment and the high octane style of play that Herd brought to the squad.

Herd arrived from Villa to replace Anthony Pulis, who's loan spell from Southampton was brought to abrupt end due to injury (although he was a pile of shite so no-one really missed him). The Austrailian made his debut in the FA Cup at Aston Villa and quickly impressed many with not only his energy, but a great leap that saw him outjump defenders that were six/seven inches taller than he was.

Herd continued to be impressive and easily became the best incoming player of the first few months of Chris Sutton's reign. Despite losing 3-1, the home game against Rochdale was a high for Herd as he scored his first goal in a City shirt, one of four that he went on to score during his six months on loan.

He always had time for the fans as well. He was in the train station after the game at Grimsby and took time out to talk to a group of fans, had a joke with them and agreed to have photos taken.

My one criticism of Herd was that he did tend to get a bit selfish on the ball and you always got a feeling that his enthusiasm and energy would get him many bookings, something which also turned out to be the case.

I would personally have him back next season in a heartbeat, but the ball is firmly in his court. The City fans want him, the club seemingly want him and Herd has hinted on occasions that he would certainly be open to the possibility of coming here. However, we certainly won't be the only team in for him and I doubt we'll see him in a Lincoln shirt again.
