Alan Marriott, a record breaking goalkeeper for the Imps, has predicted the Imps will do well in the upcoming season. Unlike most other people who have predicted, Marriott has recent success in the division, going up with Mansfield last season.
The Imps signed Marriott from Tottenham Hotspur in 1999 and he quickly gained the regular starting spot. In a 9 year spell at the club at the club he broke the record for the most appearances by a goalkeeper and kept over 100 clean sheets for the club, comfortably a record for the Imps. He left in 2008 and joined Rushden before a transfer to Mansfield soon after.
Speaking to the Lincolnshire Echo, Marriott had high hopes for the Imps.
"The Conference Premier is a tough league to get out of, but looking at Lincoln they have a decent squad even though it is not big in numbers. They have a good spine and in Paul Farman they have one of the best goalkeepers in the league in my opinion," he told the weekly newspaper.
Marriott is the only man to have played in every single Playoff game that the club has played, appearing in all 11 matches between 2002 and 2007, and he commented on a few of his former team-mates that have now rejoined the club.
"At centre-back you have Nat Brown and Luke Foster who are blessed with experience while Alan Power is a very talented footballer. Then up front you've got Ben Tomlinson, Nick Wright and Waide Fairhurst who are all capable of scoring goals."
" Danny Rowe will be a big player for Lincoln this season. I remember playing against him last season for Mansfield against Barrow. He stood out by a country mile. He showed flashes of brilliance. He is not only capable of being a match-winner but he can bring other forwards into play too. He's a great signing."
"Knowing Gary Simpson as I do, he has the know-how and experience and he will have them incredibly well prepared"
The former Imps favourite eventually predicted that the Imps would finish 6th.
