Imps and Cards uninspiring in bore-draw

Lincoln and Woking played out a dire draw on the opening day of the season with very chances of scoring. 

The Imps kicked off the match and almost took the lead within the first ten seconds as Tomlinson snuck in between defender and goalkeeper, but his attempted chip went just wide of the target. A few minutes later Wright was released by Foster, but the corner he won was headed wide by Boyce.

It was a slow first half with action a bit on the thin side as neither team really tested the other’s goalkeeper, the Imps were enjoying the few half chanced that there were but in reality, it was already looking destined for a goalless draw before the half hour mark was up.

Williams hit a free hit well over the bar from the edge of the are before Tomlinson hit a shot straight at Howe in the Woking goal to end the half.

Wright headed wide from a Tomlinson cross before Farman had to do well to save a shot from Sawyer that seemed destined for the net.  Farman was again called into action as Payne’s effort was tipped behind for a corner before the entry of quite possible the greatest beard in footballing history, with McNerney replacing former Imp McCallum.

Both sets of fans felt annoyed by a yellow card to Tomlinson. Tomlinson had clearly won the ball but it was a dangerous challenge. One Woking fan behind the goal shouted “how you can you applaud a player like that, he’s an animal?”

Bohan Dixon made a surprising debut, replacing the largely ineffective Wright before McNamee came on for Sawyer for the hosts. Dixon hit a volley over the bar before Nolan failed to make the most of being put through on goal, hitting his shot straight at Howe.

Payne was booked late on but other than that it was a largely uneventful final few minutes in what was a rather uninspiring game.
