The Carling Cup draw will be made on 28th June with the seeding system returning to the competition. Last season, this seeded system gave the Imps a home against Derby, and after the Imps won 3-1, City had earnt themselves a trip to Premiership side Birmingham.

City, will again be unseeded in this year's competition, meaning that the Imps are guaranteed to face a side from the Championship or a Northern team that finished in the top half of League 1 last season, this means, potential trips to Leeds, Sheff United, Leicester and Wolves.
