Yeo to be released from contract

Ex Lincoln City striker, Simon Yeo is to be released from his contract with the New Zealand Knights later this week. The popular striker, has been tipped for a return to the Bank has had a troubled time down under and the club have agreed to release him which will no doubt cause a lot of speculation

Yeo left the Imps after the playoff final defeat last season in a move that most had predicted since he started on his goal run. In 122 league games, he scored an impressive 37 goals, the majority of which came in his final 6 months with the club.

Although currently the top scorer the Auckland based New Zealand Knights, Yeo has had a miserable season overall as the Knights have lost 13 of their 15 league games, with them scoring just 10 goals. Their only win came early on in the season, against Central Coast Mariners in which Yeo himself, opened the scoring with Sean Devine getting the second 10 minutes later.

However, life off the pitch has apparantly been hitting Yeo hard and he now appears set to leave New Zealand after just 6 months and he has his heart set on a move to an English side. However, as stated in a story yesterday, there is still some confusion over whether Yeo would be allowed to join an English club in the transfer window, due FIFA's registration rule. However, there are plenty of clubs interested in the 32 year old with the Imps' next opponents, Oxford United, believed to be heading the list of clubs having apparantly already offered Yeo a lucrative 3 year deal.

Yeo's release will no doubt cause a lot of Lincoln fans to get excited about the prospect of seeing last year's top scorer back in an Imps shirt, however, with so many clubs wanting to sign the striker, will Yeo be willing to move back to the Imps after his rant in the Lincolnshire Echo. Only time will tell but we'll bring you more on the situation as news becomes available.
