Coventry City lost an opening day fixture for the first time since their relegation season in 2000/1.

Only 15,000 Coventry City supporters bothered attending this match, in a crowd of just over 21,000, with the mood amongst those in Sky Blue as low as it's been for as long as most can remember....

With Vassell sent off a mere ten minutes into the match, the game was there for Coventry City to win until Carl Baker stupidly levelled up the numbers with a ridiculously unnecessary challenge. Some say his red card was harsh, but it was obvious to most from the eleventh minute the day's match official was looking to even things out.

Despite former Coventry City loanee Schmichael looking fairly dodgy on the odd occasion he was put under pressure, the home side spared him from any embarrassment by failing to test him regularly. New season, same failings....

Lee Peltier, a free transfer signing from Huddersfield (Amongst all the millions Leicester spent over the summer), scored the games only goal, with Coventry City never really looking likely to equalise.

TEAM: Murphy, Christie (Wood 78), Hussey, Keogh, Cranie, Baker (SO 38), Clingan, Bell, Bigirimana, McSheffrey (O'Donovan 78), Jutkiewicz. SNU: Dunn, McPake, Thomas.
