Elton John has resigned as chairman of Watford saying the club deserve someone who will devote more time to the club.
The world famous singer has a famous love affair with the club and his chairman/manager partnership with Graham Taylor in the 70's and 80's brought Watford their most successful time.
John, real name Reg Dwight, left the club before returing 5 years ago. In a statement released by the club he said that the club deserved someone who could offer more time to the club than he could.
"With the huge changes taking place in football, it is obviously necessary for the board to be led by a chairman who will be able to devote more time to the club than I have been able.
"The directors will now commence their search for a successor and I am sure that they will find the right person who will be able to devote time and energy to leading the club through these difficult times. I wish them and all of the supporters all the very best for the future."
Chief Executive Tim Shaw prasied the work that John has put in over the last 25 years.
"On behalf of the club and all its supporters I want to thank Elton for everything he has done during both periods that he has been chairman.
"There is no doubt that without his vision, energy and investment, the club would never have made the progress that it has over the last 25 years. We will now commence our search for a new chairman."
