PSV steal win against Ajax

Ajax was the better team all game but it's PSV Eindhoven who stole the three points in the Amsterdam Arena today. PSV scored from a set piece and another spot on defensive display could deny Ajax a goal, even with ten man.

The clash of the Dutch titans was exciting for the full 90 minutes, Ajax were the better team with offensive attractive football, while PSV played defensively with some rare attacking outbursts through Arouna Koné and Jefferson Farfan.

Although Ajax had more possesion it could not create any decent chances. PSV started to play better after the interval and became very dangerous through set pieces. Jan Kromkamp missed the target by inches and a few minutes later it was Timmy Simons who headed home and scored the 1-0 for PSV.

PSV decided to play even more defensively after they took the lead. Ronald Koeman's team were restricted to play counter football. Everything went well for Koeman's troops until Edison Mendez was send off for receiving his second yellow of the day. Koeman decided to sacrifice Jefferson Farfan for a defender, which resulted in an even more defensive approach from PSV.

Ajax could not get past PSV's excellent defence and were frustrated not to get a point from today's game.

PSV Eindhoven are topping the Eredivisie table again after their win over Ajax today.
