United were sensational for the opening 15 minutes, proving to their new manager that there is sufficient quality in the squad for them to escape relegation.

Goals from Andy Tod and Charlie Miller - with Derek Adams replying for Well - were enough to give the Tannadice side three points and kick start the McCall revolution.

A delighted McCall said: "We were fantastic in the opening 15 minutes. I was standing wondering how a team that was playing this well and showing such endeavour and togetherness could be bottom of the league. I thought every player was excellent."

United's opener resulted from a well-worked corner between Miller and Tod. The United midfielder played a short pass into the area, setting up his team-mate for a simple finish.

However, McCall has only been in charge of two United training sessions and was quick to play down credit for such a well worked dead ball.

He said: "It certainly wasn't planned, we never worked on corners in training. I think it was just a really bad corner that was met with a superb finish!

"Seriously though, it was a great goal and I was impressed by the way they dug in and ground out the win."
