Burnley 0 Liverpool 1

Burnley suffered the Boxing Day blues as Raheem Sterling struck the winner in a tense Turf Moor affair.  The Clarets had dominated large swathes of the game, with Danny Ings smashing a first half shot off the post.

But as the Reds came more into the game after the break, Sterling struck just past the hour mark to inflict a first home defeat in two months’ on Sean Dyche’s side

The consolation for the Clarets was a return to action for Welsh striker Sam Vokes, who was given an 18-minute run out as a second half substitute after nine months on the sidelines.

In a lively start, the Clarets forced the first half chance when Scott Arfield kept the ball in play and pulled the ball back for Ings, who was crowded out before he could spin and get his shot away.

At the other end, Tom Heaton easily kept out a weak, deflected effort from Phillipe Coutinho.

And in the 15th minute, Burnley were a whisker away from opening the scoring as Ings rattled the woodwork.

The Clarets leading scorer latched onto Mee’s throw infield and wrong-footed Brad Jones, only to see his strike cannon out from the foot of the left hand post.

That was Jones’ last piece of the action, as the injured keeper was replaced by Simon Mignolet.

How we lost that one I'll never know.

It was painful to watch, I even said to MH this had 0-1 written all over it just two minutes before they scored. Do I not like this Premier League.

Still in the long run this loss doesn't really matter, neither do the City or Newcastle games, take six points from the Palace and QPR games and we're on track to survive, they're the ones that really matter, the ones that will keep us up.

It's really enjoyable though.

We joke about it BC but we're so competitive.

Take out West Brom (where we went 4141 and we doomed from that decision onwards) which I didn't see, we've been in every game.

Spurs last weekend and Liverpool yesterday we're great toe to toe battles, five year ago we lost those two games 5-0 and 4-0 respectively.

I don't care if we stay up or go down, there is a plus and a minus to both end scenarios for me...I just want us to be competitive on weekly basis and were managing that, by some miracle.

With what we have for a squad and what the likes of Liverpool and the rest have I would be questioning the qualities of their respective managers. Ours is top drawer and no mistake.A little comment regarding Ings, it has been mentioned on a few occasions by various posters that Ings has been guilty of costing us goals by sometimes not laying off the ball to a better positioned player. I only saw the highlights last night and saw two examples of ridiculous attempts to get into a position to get a shot away when he had no chance whatsoever. He is not only not scoring regularly enough he is costing us, SD needs to deal with this.

Agree, to some extent.

People making noise about Vokes' return, personally I wouldn't start him until Pre-Season, however, if he was to come in for anyone right this moment, it wouldn't be for Barnes

We certainly are competitive, that's what's so frustrating, we've been inches away from being on 20+ points now and in mid-table. I don't find any enjoyment though in being competitive and losing games, I know what you're saying MH, but you get 0 points for getting beat 5-0, you get 0 points for getting beat 1-0, holding these top teams to one goal instead of five is like ear-rings on a pig, doesn't make a whole lot of difference.

I know what your saying but I'm just being selfish.

I'm enjoying this Season, in certain ways, and I didn't think I would.

Last time was shite.

As seen as I don't care if we stay up or go down then if offered to me that we will be competitive in every game, go toe to toe and still only lose by one goal (or draw, or win by one goal) then I would take that.

Think we've been superb this Season. Last time was shocking.
