Golden Boot Winner Aubameyang MotM Ratings at Burnley
By Matt Sadler
May 12 2019
A real up-and-down league season comes to an end. Rubbish first half but the second half was enjoyable, especially as my MotM won the Golden Boot.
Leno - 6. Fought a personal battle with Barnes today. Had some good moments but that Lehmann moment (as grayfox put it) was idiotic.
Lichtsteiner - 6. Okay today. Tried getting forward but crossing was poor.
Mustafi - 6. Tough performance against two physical strikers but did okay.
Mavropanos - 5. Looked really rusty, and struggled, before going off injured. Disappointing season unfortunately.
Monreal - 7. Better from him. Got forward well.
Guendouzi - 7. Played well today. Got roughed up a few times but I thought he was very good on the ball.
Elneny - 7. I've never been a fan of the bloke but I thought he did well today.
Mkhitaryan - 5. Although he was a bit brighter in the second half this was another poor display.
Willock - 7. Although its not saying much I thought he was our best player in the first half. Put himself about and tried to cause problems. Nothing really came off for him in the second half, but a positive display.
Iwobi - 6. Looked like it was going to be another typical Iwobi performance, great approach play but no end product, till he got two assists in the second half. The first was very good as well.
Aubameyang - 8. Continued his recent streak of determined and hungry performances. Scored two really well taken goals but missed a great chance for his hat trick and to win the Golden Boot outright.
Subs:
Koscielny - 7. Looked better when he came on.
Nketiah - 7. Lively. Wasn't always great on the ball but got his goal late on.

Congrats Auba on sharing Golden Boot in your first full season in the EPL
Top draw.
Merl will no doubt differ.

Of course.
No mental focus and killer instinct missing that penalty and that clear-cut chance 2 yards out.
DO you know he is our first 30+ goal per season scorer after Van Persie?

Quote:Willock seems to have something that guendouzi doesn't in the final third. Maybe his lower centre of gravity.MattySadler
I know I have a bit if a youth team agenda but Willock starting and in particular Nketiah getting his first league goal really made my day.
Stephan - 6 alright
Mustafi - 7 one of his rare good games where he didn't make a stupid mistake
Mavropanos - 5 Very shaky
Monreal - 7 looks composed
Matteo - 8 I have been critical of him lately, but this was a good performance. Didn't fall down asking for fouls at the slightest touch at least. When he went down, it was really heavy fouls by a physical Burnley. He needs to get stronger though
Elneny - 7.5 much more confident on the ball which was the key to a much better performance. Kept the ball well, dealt with the press well and passed well (less pressure to perform?)
Mhkitaryan - 6 better than before but still not good enough. Got off some shots at goal so at least that's much more than in any of the last games.
Iwobi - 8 (poor first half, improved second half he was a constant threat and better delivery)
Willock - 5 No handicap given to youth so to me he was poor. Didn't see anything special.
Aubameyang - 8.5 Lively MOTM, could have a couple more. He should be getting Ozil's money. Need to keep him at all cost. Wanted him when he was a youngster at St. Etienne, thank you Arsene!
Kos 7.5 - still our best defender, calmed the defense when he got on.
Nketiah - 7, extra for the goal, not much time to impact but shows a lot more je ne sais quoi than Willock.

Has been used more as a "final third player" this season and has done well. Believe he has 12 goals in all competitions for youth and first team.

Its upto willock to impress emery in pre season. I think he does have something on the defensive side of the game as well. He needs to push to get into the first team
