Once, Rice, three times a lady

In what has been a difficult season, Arsenal turned on the style once again in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Arsenal started brightly in what was an intersting game of football. It was played at a decent pace whith both teams having their moments in the first half. Declan Rice turned the game on its head with two amazing free kicks, both won by the brilliant Bukayo Saka.

It's only half time and Real Madrid have indicidual quality that can hurt all teams. This one isn't over yet.

Let's rotate the heck out of this team at the weekend.

Player ratings

Raya 7 - Made a couple of decent saves. His distribution was excellent.

Timber 8 - Pretty much shutdown Vini. Hopefully subbed as a precaution

Saliba 7 - Had one or two panicky moments in the first but kept calm

Kiwior 7 - We were alll worried about this one. Played really well barring one sloppy pass in the first half.

MLS 8 - Gets the ball and is always positive. What a player he is.

Partey 8 - Controlled the game from midfield. Do we offer him a new deal?

Odegaard 6 - Is that controversial? He worked tirelessly but took too many touches for me.

Rice 9 - MOTM His set piece delivery is elite. His two free kicks today were sensational.

Saka  8 - Been out for ages, comes back and although rusty, has his full back on toast.

Merino 7 - A great finish and looks fitter and sharper after all these games.

Martinelli 8 - I thought he was really good and was the first one over the hill today.

Subs

Trossard 6 - Fine. Gives me a heart attack when he's moving with the ball towards his own goal.

Tierney 6 - Ran about

Give your self a slap. Possibly the worst ratings in the history of this forum.

No one and I repeat no one is below an 8!

A proper ratings from Arseblog. Does Declan Rice have any Brazilian blood by any chance?

David Raya - 10 out of 10 - Safe hands all night

Jurrien Timber - 10 out of 10 - Vinicius who?

William Saliba - 10 out of 10 - Kept Mbappe pretty quiet

Jakub Kiwior - 10 out of 10 - Had a couple of iffy first half moments but otherwise v solid and let's enjoy this win

Miles Lewis-Skelly - 10 out of 10 - How is he doing this at 18 against Real Madrid? Unreal, an assist for Merino's goal

Thomas Partey - 10 out of 10 - Bossed it in midfield

Declan Rice - 10 out of 10 - I wish I could give him 11 because he deserves the extra point this evening - those are two of the greatest free kicks you will ever see at this level

Martin Odegaard - 10 out of 10 - Quiet in comparison to some others, but we're all in on the 10s

Gabriel Martinelli - 10 out of 10 - Busy down the left hand side when we got the ball out to him

Bukayo Saka - 10 out of 10 - Won both the free kicks that Rice scored from

Mikel Merino - 10 out of 10 - Mikel 'El Goleador' Merino!

Leandro Trossard - 10 out of 10 - Some lovely touches

Kieran Tierney - 10 out of 10 - Ran them ragged when he came on

Bonus
10/10 for everyone โ€“ enjoy these nights folks. They're rare but they're beautiful!

Quick change them. Talk about not reading the room mate.

It was a performance that will live with us forever and you're out here given out 6's.

Odegaard needs to think himself lucky Flava gave him a 6.
He was so poor again.

He even told Rice to cross the ball for the 1st free kick he scored ๐Ÿคก๐Ÿคก

You mean Odegaard, and that fellow Declan Rice as the 8? I thought they were both 6 if not for Rice's wonder free kicks and the result.

I thought Odegaard and Rice were a bit quiet, but that's because Real Madrid were playing like a bottom half Premier League team. Or is that because Arsenal have now become adept at controlling the game from the back? Real Madrid didn't know what to do?

I'm sure this is what phase 3 or 4 looks like in Arteta's mind..

I'm also sure Arteta believes that we can still win the PL, therefore he'll go strong this weekend, and ๐Ÿคž no injuries...

It was 10:30 last night and I wanted to get a feature article out as that keeps the site going. No one did one over the international break.

It's not about reading the room, it's about giving fair ratings. ร˜degaard was ok which is why I gave him a 6. I wanted to fine everyone a 10 but that wouldn't be accurate, would it?

I'm surprised you're even celebrating, you wanted the season to end 20 times this year.

It's amazing how you manage to drain the joy out of something that should've been special. You're so up and down it's unbelievable, you're buzzing one minute and on the floor the next

Those ratings are near enough perfect

He does what Zinchenko was supposed to do.

And he cost us nothing.

I'm guessing Zinchenko will be sold in the summer..
