The tour to the U.S. has started and a 20 man squad flew to California yesterday (Wednesday) to Los Angeles for an eight-day training camp prior to the first of the three match pre-season warm-up games against an All-Star MLS Eleven in Chicago on Saturday 5th August.

The game is being shown LIVE on Chelsea TV along with the away game against Feyenoord on the 8th August and then the Celtic home game at The Bridge on Wednesday 9th August.

Jose Mourinho excused Claude Makelele and Hernan Crespo from the trip to the States, using the excuse that they are over 30, but with the constant speculation that Hernan wants to return 'home' to Italy, where does Claude want to go?

Crespo's and Maka's absence made good news for a couple of Chelsea juniors in that Ryan Bertrand and Michael Woods were selected from a random draw to travel in their place.

Because of their first team squad inclusion of late last season, defender Michael Mancienne and attacking midfielder Jimmy Smith travelled along with the first day World Cup returness in John Terry, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole. It is reported that Andriy Shevchenko will be with the squad and will be presented to an open media session at the camp.

Willie G, Ballack, Carvalho and Ferreira will join up with the squad at the weekend.
