Two things were obvious to the eye at Cardiff yesterday afternoon. Chelsea the football team didn't turn up and neither did the fans.
Community Shield two bob, when you have more bigger and better fish to fry and the fans have their money to spend on - say for example a third Premiership title win and a GLORIOUS Champions League campaign to look forward to. But as a team when you DO turn up to play in a 'two-bob' pre-season friendly for an oversized frizbee the least you can do is to defend your goal properly which wasn't the case for both Liverpool's goals yesterday afternoon. Chelsea from an attacking corner somehow contrived, Chelsea target John Arne Riise, to run the whole length of the Millenium pitch before hitting a 25 yarder which flew under Cudicini's body to put Liverpool one up. If Chelsea's interest in Riise is true, then they better think about adding a few more figures to his value. Liverpool's 2nd goal, eight minutes from time saw Ferreira hopefully exposed by 'Pool's sub Bellamy before he sent over a cross which completely beat new England Captain John Terry to allow 'The Freak,' to simply nod the ball back across Cudicini into the net. At least there was slight consolation for Chelsea fans in that 'The Shev' showed why Chelsea paid a record £30.8m when he tucked home a sublime pass from Frank Lampard moments from half-time to put Chelsea on level terms. There was a period in the second-half where Chelsea looked as if they would put Liverpool to the sword. Drogba caused Reina near embarrassment when he struggled to tip a cross shot over the bar and then from the resulting corner, Reina tipped a 'Shev' header at his left hand post. Other than that and Liverpool's late winner was to prove the frizbee was heading 'Up Norf.' No doubt we will get reminded, how many times the 'frizbee' has gone there.
