On the train up to Hull yesterday conversation got round to the events that were awaiting us at the KC Stadium and everybody was in full agreement that Chelsea needed to get off to a fast start against the roaring Tigers. Not only did Chelsea get off to a fast start, a goal inside 3 minutes, but a delicious one at that.
Frank Lampard with a chip from the left hand side of the area which floated into the right hand side of Myhill's net. The Tiger roar was reduced to the mewing of a kitten. Not that during the course of the game, Hull caused a few flutterings of this old heart. Cousin hit the post, Geovanni tried a couple of long-range free-kicks which had Cech scrambling across his goal to save and Turner rose high from a corner to head just over. The return of Joe Cole was a welcome sight and he was involved in what I thought was the move of the match. The ball found its way out to Chelsea's left and Ashley Cole whipped a cross in, Joey controlled it, swivelled and switched the ball out to the right for Anelka to fire one in, which Myhill did well to tip over the bar. For all of Chelsea's possession and dominance, Chelsea still couldn't convert the numerous chances they were creating - Malouda the main culprit - he could have easily had a first half hat-trick. It only took five minutes into the second-half for Chelsea to get their 2nd. A hopeful long ball from Bossie caused confusion in the Hull defence and keeper Myhill and in nipped Anelka to score his 6th of the season. Malouda finally scored in the 74th minute. Again down Chelsea's left, Ashley Cole and Ricky interchanged passes before Ricky whipped in a low cross leaving Malouda to tap-in, Hull painfully appealing for offside. Chelsea played the last four minutes with ten men as Ricky pulled up with what looked like a hamstring injury and on an extremely cold night in East Yorkshire, Chelsea's performance brought an inner glow and made the return trip home on the 'freebie' train go very quick indeed!! Anelka seemed a bit more robust and sharper. Loads of chances (and shots off target) and a finely worked goal for the 3rd.
Just what we needed really and we need to mantain distance between ourselves and the Mancs.

By coincidence "mewing" is a word I´ve used in conversation with football friends recently to describe their complaining! Great minds...!
