Last Thursday night, Juan Mata was crowned Player of the Year. Ramires was named Players Player of the Year and Ramires also won Chelsea’s Goal of the Season, as voted by the fans, for his wonderful chip in the Nou Camp against Barcelona in the 2nd leg Champions League semi-final.
With only six days to go to the final in Munich (my travel plans to Munich were all confirmed yesterday), Bayern’s preparations suffered a blow when they were beaten in the German Cup Final by Bundelisga Champions Dortmund 5-2, therefore completing a German League and Cup double.
On Thursday night at Ewood Park, the Academy regained the FA Youth Cup beating relegated Rovers U18s 4-1 on aggregate. Some aspects of the game mirrored the first team’s performance at Anfield the previous night – slipping and sliding all over the place, defensive errors.
I know the policy at Cobham Halls is for ALL Chelsea teams at whatever level to play the same way, but…. You get my drift?!?
Chelsea Ladies U17s won their Cup Final beating the U17s Ladies of Arsenal in a penalty shoot-out, 6-5 and Chelsea Ladies take on Birmingham City in a couple of weeks in their Cup Final at Ashton Gate.
This afternoon at The Bridge the 2012 FA Cup Winners take on relegated Blackburn Rovers whose fate was sealed by Wigan last Monday night.
Chelsea are still without Gary Cahill and David Luiz due to their respective hamstring injuries, but Bobby Di has said he expects them to both resume full training this week and with Ivanovic and ‘One England Captain’ JT suspended for the Champions League final, will Bobby Di start with his ‘alternative’ defence today at The Bridge?
Today’s result is immaterial, although Chelsea will want to finish the League season on a high with a win and have some momentum going into next week’s Champions Final.
For an indication of Bobby Di’s thinking and planning, Lucas Piazon who won Chelsea’s Young Player of the Year, tweeted overnight saying ‘he hopes to make his full debut.’
At the end of today’s game the players will go on their traditional end of season lap of honour to parade the FA Cup won last weekend, for the fourth time in six years and I hope the Academy and the Chelsea Ladies U17s will be allowed to join them to parade their respective trophies.
