Could we be the first London club to win Big Ears?

No London club has won the European Cup (or Champions League in its current guise…or Corrupt Cup as it may be more accurately described). Ourselves, Arsenal and Spurs do total up a respectable amount of European silverware, but none of us have won Europe’s premier competition.
What’s the value in winning a trophy that not just because of footballing reasons is so difficult to win? Chelsea supporters know that we are not UEFA’s favourites and we’ve suffered in the past because of this. I would argue that to actually win the thing, against such insurmountable odds makes it actually even more than an achievement.
UEFA would probably prefer Bayern Munich to win tonight. All I ask is that we have a fair and strong referee – a referee that hasn’t been “briefed” by the UEFA’s referees arm, the Referees Committee.
A further issue that we have no choice but to deal with is that Bayern Munich are at home. Nevertheless, we will have 17,500 in the stadium and so will they. Does the home advantage, in a paradoxical way, put our opponents under more pressure?
We have four players missing, they have three. Problem is, a two of ours are centre-halves. Replacements Cahill and Luiz haven’t played for weeks but have been training. We have to hope that the extra adrenalin generated on such an occasion makes up for lack of match fitness.
My brother and I were unable to get tickets for tonight. Over 30 odd games and 84 loyalty points wasn’t enough (actually, 84 loyalty points is enough – just not if you are a member as opposed to a season ticket holder). Still, we’ll be watching tonight, hearts in mouths, desperately willing Chelsea to pull off the unthinkable.
Whatever the result tonight, under Roberto Di Matteo we have had a spectacular end to the season. The 2nd leg against Barcelona and the home match against Napoli stand out in the still recent memory, and of course, the FA Cup Final win against Liverpool. Torres running through on goal at the Nou Camp, totally unopposed during the final few minutes whilst Barcelona had pushed everybody up almost surrealy like a schoolboy side, is something that will forever remain in my living memory. What a season it’s been! Could it be even one of the best ever after tonight?
