The Champions of Europe and FA Cup Winners take on the Champions of England at Villa Park this afternoon in the curtain raiser to herald the start of the 2012/13 season. Oscar begins his career at Cobham Halls in the next few days bringing with him an Olympic Silver medal as Brazil were surprisingly beaten by Mexico at Wembley yesterday afternoon.
Marko Marin is unavailable and didn’t travel with the squad yesterday afternoon and overnight news broke that City’s Joe Hart is unavailable due to a back injury and Hart also misses England’s midweek friendly against Italy.
Edinson Cavani scored for Napoli against Juventus in the Italian Super Cup yesterday. Was that his last goal for the Azzuri?
Fernando Torres roared his desire for today’s game and the season saying, “I haven’t won this trophy and I want it. I don’t care if it’s not the most important trophy in England because for me it is.
“I would like to finish my career with all the trophies possible – I may have won the most difficult ones but I haven’t won many of the trophies you have the chance to win every season.
“If you want to play the Community Shield, you have to win the Premier League or the FA Cup, so it’s not easy to be there. Let’s go and win the first trophy of the season.”
Chelsea will have to improve an awful lot based on pre-season results and performances.
We all know City are skilful and have goalscorers from anywhere on the pitch and if Chelsea do not improve defensively quickly, City will no doubt have a field day.
