The U19s covered themselves in glory with a thrilling win over Arsenal’s U19s in the NextGen semi-final in Como Italy yesterday and now it is the turn of the first team who play twice before the U19s take centre stage again on Monday in the final against Aston Villa’s U19s in the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium.
Naturally we will have everything covered for the final with team news as and when becomes available and LIVE updates of the game from 5pm (6pm local time)
Both of yesterday’s semi-finals went to extra-time.
Chelsea won 4-3 after being 1-0 down, 3-1 up, then Arsenal scored twice to equalise in the last ten minutes, before Lewis Baker popped up with his second and the winner minutes before the end of the 2nd period of extra-time.
Aston Villa, renowned for their youth development, defeated Sporting Lisbon 3-1 to set-up the all-English final.
Today Chelsea travel to the South Coast for the second time this season looking to repeat their 5-1 success in the FA Cup back in January and then on Monday lunchtime Chelsea take on Man Utd in the quarter-final replay of the FA Cup.
There are no reports of any injuries and everybody that went off on international duty came back safe and sound and the players who didn’t go should be fully rested and ready to go again in a busy week of four fixtures in three competitions in nine days.
It seems to me Fatty is making excuses for Chelsea’s failures (should they happen) even before a ball has been kicked when he said, “For us, it’s one game at a time, and every competition is the most important competition.
“For four months we have been playing one game every three days, but two days is impossible to have fresh legs if you play 90 minutes against Southampton. That’s the most difficult aspect.
“Three days is very close, four days is fine. With the information we have we could see that when we play every three days some players are a little bit tired, but two days will be impossible.
“In terms of preparation and tactics it will be fine, but physically it’s impossible. The day after a game you feel really tired, two days after you are even more tired. That’s the reality, so the second day will be tough for everyone.”
