2 Points Clear as the Gooners Drop Points Again!

At the start of each season, the only trophy I crave for is the Championship. The Championship is the only trophy that I want Chelsea to win and you know that when a particular stage of the season arrives, you wonder if your craving begins to look like a reality.

As every Chelsea fan knows, it has been 50 years since the top honour in English football had graced the trophy room at Stamford Bridge. After grinding out another 1-0 victory over fellow pacesetters Everton yesterday at Stamford Bridge reality begins to beckon. 12 games played, nine wins, two draws and one defeat with ONLY three goals conceded. To me that is Championship winning form. But before you start to count the chickens there are still 26 games to go and everyone a tough one, because it is beginning to look like Chelsea are becoming to team to beat. Here's hoping.

Chelsea sit proudly this morning at the top of the Premiership table two points clear of Arsenal firstly after grinding out a 1-0 win over Everton and then by virtue of the Champions held by the slowly improving Palace 1-1 in the Saturday early evening post firework night kickoff. Form over the last three games shows that Chelsea deserve to be at the pinnacle of English football. Nine points and three wins from three games whereas 'The Arse' have only taken 2 points with two draws and one defeat from the same three.

A goal from Arjen Robben, who if continues with current form will become a Stamford Bridge 'legend' quicker than anybody else in Chelsea's history, conjured from a long ball clearance from 'Ricky' Carvalho from his own half near the right hand corner flag which was in turn continued by Eidersson. Robben pounced on the long ball and with sheer pace and speed dribbled the ball into the Everton area on 72 minutes before lifting the ball over a hapless Martyn in the Everton goal, to give Chelsea a solitary goal victory.

Robben caused Everton all sorts of problems. Third in the Premiership and unbeaten away from home in the Premiership before today, Chelsea threatened on more than one occasion to overwhelm their nearest rivals. Robben provided all the tricks all the pace and all of the speed to unsettle and unhinge a solid and resolute Everton back four. The highlight of the first half came when Robben hit a 25 yard screamer on the half volley only to see Martyn acrobatically tip the shot over the bar. Far from being defensive, Everton in attack forced Cech to make a couple of smart saves, namely the best from a Tim Cahill header also in the first half and how Alan Stubbs missed the target with a second half header from a poorly defended corner, only he will know.

Any Evertonians that have chosen to read this, I just want to tell you about an 'idiot' a so-called supporter you have within your ranks. Outside the ground a fleet of coaches wait to collect the visiting supporters after the game. The whole area was congested with fans slowly finding their way to the tube, buses, cars, even the hamburger stalls. And then you had parades of police mostly on horses trying to sort out the massive throng. There were a couple of scuffles, but nothing to major. Mixed in of course with Evertonians trying to find the right coach for the long journey back home. In one of the coaches the normal window banging banter stopped when one 'idiot' decided to throw a lighted firework from the skylight at the back of the coach. As the firework glared and flared, it shot off across the roof of two coaches that were in line behind, before dropping down in between the back of one and the front of another. As it exploded with an almighty bang, the noise startled three police horses. The officers on board did an extremely professional job controlling their charges and stopping them from rearing and charging within a seriously congested crowd. Lady Luck certainly shone down on that particular area of the Fulham Road last night.
