Another Win, Another Clean Sheet

Two goals, one in each half, from Robert Huth and captain John Terry both scoring from headers saw Chelsea through to the last sixteen and one step nearer in their quest to capture the remarkable haul of four trophies.

Chelsea's first goal in the fifth minute came from Huth who powered in a close range header from a Duff corner, after Terry had appeared to block Taylor, to allow his defensive colleague to rise unchallenged. Duff was the main influence in the game and had the chance to score just seconds before but he scuffed his shot wide. Later on in the half, Duff pulled another shot wide of the goal as Chelsea completely dominated the first half proceedings. Huth had another header hit the bar as Birmingham struggled to keep Chelsea at bay.

The second half was a different story. Robben came on to replace Duff, whose influence was missed. Birmingham sensed this and began to find the confidence to attack and their first serious threat on the Chelsea goal came in the 52nd minute when Anderton forced Cudicini into a save palming the ball over the crossbar. Robbie Blake, Birmingham's transfer window signing from Burnley, should have done an awful lot better when gifted a chance from a mistimed John Terry header, trying to play it back to Cudicini.

On came Lampard and Drogba for Kezman and Gudjohsen and parity was restored. Lampard took over the midfield, Drogba held the line and the ball well and the two almost created a carbon copy of Lampards goal at Old Trafford in midweek, but this time Taylor in the Birmingham goal saved well.

Chelsea's second goal came in the 79th minute when John Terry rose unmarked to powerfully head home from a Frank Lampard cross. Once the second goal went in Jose Mourinho brought off the injured Robert Huth and played the final minutes with ten men.

Top of the Premiership, Last sixteen of the Champions League, FA Cup and a Carling Cup Final. Is there a team to stop Chelsea?? Only time will tell.
