He Who Laughs Last, Laughs Loudest!

Forget the histronics, forget the bad mouthing, forget the bad words. Forget Barcelona. Super Jose Mourinho led his team of blue warriors into battle tonight at Stamford Bridge and his team produced a performance of stunning counter-attacking football,........

.....heartbeat missing defending and a wonderful encore by virtue of King John Terry heading the winning goal fourteen minutes from time, putting Chelsea into the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League for the third consecutive time and that in three attempts. Three times now Chelsea have beaten the footballing superstars from Catalonia at Stamford Bridge. First was in the old Inter-City Fairs Cup back in the sixties. The second time was five years ago in the Champions League and although the Catalonians went on to win the previous two ties overall, tonight was most definitely Chelsea's night.

A sight to see, a pleasure to view - Jose Mourinho dancing the jig of delight on the pitch at the final whistle, celebrating with his Captain, surely a firm favourite for Player of the Year, John Terry. The raptuous ovation and a crescedo of noise greeted the final whistle. Barcelona out. Chelsea through.

Although the stats will show that Barcelona edged possession, played most of the football and had the majority of goalscoring chances it was Chelsea that raced into a quick-fire stunning three goal lead. First Gudjohnsen from a fine Kezman cross made it one nil, then from a Joe Cole deflected shot which Valdez did well to get a hand to, Lampard rifled home the second. Two minutes later Duff raced onto a Joey Cole through ball and slid home number three. Three goals in nineteen minutes. All over, you bet it wasn't.

Enter the buck-tooth one with two goals in the space of nine minutes. His first came from the penalty spot when Ferreria handled. Credit to Cech he dived the right way and got a hand to the ball but was unable to keep it out. His second, well, simply was a touch of genius. Firstly Super JT struggled to clear a header, whilst jumping as he was moving backwards, with Carvalho right behind him, surely Carvalho was better placed to deal with the threat. Maybe JT never heard a call from Carvalho in the cauldron of noise, or perhaps there was not a call. The ball found its way to the buck-toothed one on the edge of the D. With a samba jig or two, Ronaldinho stabbed the ball with his left and the degree of power and swerve just left Cech mesmirised as the ball flew past him into the right hand side of the net at the Matthew Harding end of the ground. Chelsea were left stunned and simply had to see out the final fifteen minutes of the half without conceding further. Chances still came Chelsea's way with Lampard firing over from a JT header, Joey Cole who was simply inspirational and irresistible hitting the post from twenty yards, the unfortunate Eider couldn't take advantage of the rebound. Eto'o hit one just over the bar from a superb outside of the boot through ball again from the buck-tooth one.

No team has scored three against Chelsea this season in any competition, this record could have easily been broken except for the agility of Petr Cech. No doubt this man is fast becoming probably the best goalkeeper in Europe. Just as he did in the first leg, Cech defied Barcelona with a string of fine saves as the Catalonians looked to press home their undoubted football supremacy.

What Barcelona didn't reckon for was the heart of Chelsea being as big as the heart of the Earl of Cadogan lion crest which will soon be re-introduced to the Chelsea fold, once Chelsea's 100 year celebrations get underway. Chelsea battled, fought, repelled the Spanish invaders. Chelsea worked tirelessly and just when you thought that they were going to be denied by the away goal rule, Captain John Terry stole a header from a Duff corner and sealed an extremely and well-deserved victory which now means that Chelsea has only lost once at home in fifty European Cup ties.

Barcelona certainly have had their harsh words severely rammed backed down their throats as they scuttle back to Spain, with the buck tooth one's pony-tail firmly stucked between their legs. Eto'o, Deco, Ronaldinho himself, Rijkaard, Puyol, Joan Laporta Barcelona's President can all go home lick their wounds say what they want for all to read and now will be seen as the sore losers.

He who laughs last, laughs loudest!!
