Chelsea Win in Korea

Joe Cole's goal was enough to give Chelsea victory in their friendly match against Suwon Bluewings. The England midfielder, due to jet out to the United States to link up with Sven Goran Eriksson's squad, signed off from club matters with the winner in Korea.

With 16 minutes on the clock, the former West Ham man broke onto Tiago's powerful header from midfield and, although slightly miscontrolling the ball, he compensated with a calm finish past Bluewings keeper Lee Won-jae.

Kim Do-heon threatened Petr Cech's goal with a thunderous strike that flew over the bar but Chelsea should have extended their advantage when Jiri Jarosik passed up a glorious opportunity to double the lead.

The lanky midfielder showed his strength to power through on goal but dragged his shot wastefully wide of an inviting target.

Cech only really made one save of note in the first period and was replaced by Carlo Cudicini after the break.

Indeed, Jose Mourinho made several alterations to hand some experience to his fringe players as Suwon began to enjoy greater possession and established a foothold in the game.

One substitute, Anthony Grant, lashed a rare shot on goal wide as things fizzled out a little.

There were three bookings for the Premiership champions in the second half as Robert Huth, Claude Makelele and Geremi all found themselves in the referee's notebook.
