Chelsea travel to Goodison Park on Sunday with a perfect 100% nine from nine record to meet Everton who by their own standards have had a poor start to the Premiership season. One goal and three points from eight matches.
As the What Do You Know? series continues, What Do You Know about Everton Football Club?
The club was formed as the St. Domingo Football Club in 1878 when Rev B.S. Chambers was appointed Minister to St Domingo's Methodist Church. Rev Chambers was responsible for starting up a Cricket team for the Church and the Parish, and because Cricket can only be played during the Summer months, during the Winter Rev Chambers decided to form a football team.
As there was so much interest in the football team from communities outside the Parish, in 1879 at a meeting in the Queen's Head Hotel the club's name was changed to Everton Football Club which is synonymous to the Everton district of the City of Liverpool.
Everton's first 'home' ground and where their first match took place was in Stanley Park, (Stanley Park divides Anfield and Goodison Park) and it took place in 1879. In 1882 Everton moved to Priory Road after a kind donation of land from a 'fan' named J. Cruitt.
For eight years between 1884 and 1892, Everton used Anfield as their home ground and when the rent was increased to a princely sum of £100 per year the increase was disputed and Everton moved again and finally settled at their present home, Goodison Park.
When England won the World Cup in 1966, Goodison Park became the 'other' venue to host a World Cup Semi-Final (in fact the only club ground in England to do so). Another first for Everton is that they are the only ground in the World to have a church within its boundaries. The Church, St Luke The Evangelist is situated at the cormer of the Main Stand and the Gladys Street End.
Everton's current manager is David Moyes who took Everton to their first appearance in the Champions League. Unfortunately Everton crashed out of the competition quite spectacularly during qualifying for the Group Stages.
Howard Kendall has been Everton manager three times, between 1981 - 1987, 1990 - 1993, 1997 - 1998.

Dixie Dean is Everton's All-Time Record League Goalscorer with 349 goals between 1925-37 and in one season, 1927-28, Dixie scored 60.
As well as being Everton's most capped player with 86 caps for Wales, Neville Southall is also Record League Appearance holder with 494 appearances between 1981 - 1995.
