Chelsea Out of CC 5-4 on Pens to Charlton

Well thats a slap in the face for this author and alot of twists of emotions. Why? Well I wrote on Sunday prior to the Everton game how I shivered with fear when The Special One picked Huth to face the likes of Beattie and or Ferguson as Everton's strikeforce.
Although my worries turned out to be groundless on Sunday, its now that a certain Mr Huth, a full German International, misses his penalty which knocked out the Carling Cup holders against second in the Premiership Charlton Athletic. Just goes to show you just cannot trust a German to do anything right!!! Before I continue let me first apologise for the lack of updates on the site over the last couple of days. This is simply because my PC decided to have a holiday and refused to work. If this article manages to load and you can read it, then my PC/comm problems appear to have resolved themselves. The remark above about HUTH was unjust and unfair. The team that the Special One picked last night was as good enough to beat any team that parades themselves at Stamford Bridge and especially in front of a crowd of 42,198, Charlton Athletic deserve the fullest credit. Already beaten by Chelsea this season at the Valley and losers at the Premiership Trophy party by means of Claude Makekele's last second at the end of last season, Charlton equalised within minutes of Chelsea's Captain John Terry giving the CC holders a 41st minute lead and kept the marauding Chelsea team at bay. Not even the likes of Robben, Wright-Phillips, Crespo, Drogba, Lampard, Joe Cole, could shake Charlton out of their stride. Full credit to Charlton and fair play to Alan Curbishley. Rubbished over their past performances in the Carling Cup, this result albeit over penalties should see Charlton consolidate or perhaps kick on with their Premiership season and who knows go further in this competition or the FA Cup. What about Chelsea? The holders may be out of the Carling Cup and disappointed that they lost on penalties but at the end of the day Chelsea didn't lose the game. Remember the game was drawn 1-1 but under the rules of the competition, one team had to 'lose.' Last night it was Chelsea Football Club. To those disappointed Chelsea fans. At least Chelsea didn't lose to the Palace just like Liverpool did on Tuesday night or Tottenham who lost to Grimsby in the previous round.
