With the Premiership title safely in the bag Chelsea, back-to-back title winners, head to Ewood Park tomorrow night to face a Blackburn Rovers side who have their own agenda in trying to secure an UEFA Cup place.
A few miles down the road, the Wanderers of Bolton will be hoping that the Champions can do them a favour to keep their own UEFA cup hopes alive, despite their defeat at Tottenham yesterday. If you believe what you read today in the press and various Internet football sites, 'The Special One' is planning to help the England coach Sven 'Gormless' Eriksson by offering to rest Captain John Terry, Super Frank and the scorer of that brilliant goal on Saturday, Joe Cole for this game and the season's finale at Newcastle United on Sunday. Already 'The Special One' has gone on the offensive regarding the start of next season by slating Football's officialdom in the scheduling the start of the season. He says "I am very worried about the pre-season because that is a disgraceful situation. The players come back from the World Cup and cannot have a proper holiday. They return to us and two weeks later have to play in the Charity Shield. I am telling you in advance, for me the Charity Shield will not be a competition for us to win. "Its simply a training match. I have no matches before that." "One week later, the Premiership starts. But between the Charity Shield and the first day of the Premiership, international matches. So, before my first game, I have no players. Before the season starts I will be working with Cudicini and Diarra - just two players!!" So what kind of team could we see JM pick for the last two games? I expect little Shaunie to get two full run outs, Carlo to get two games (to make up for the second successive season where he was unable to collect a Premiership winners medal, due to lack of games). Eider could feature in either game or both, after recovering from his mystery illness. Lassana Diarra (Makelele's mini-me) could replace the great man in his role, Maniche could be given the chance to secure his loan move and then there Carlton Cole, Huth, Geremi and Glenn Johnson. So lots of permutations for JM to ponder with and here's hoping that Chelsea can go to both Ewood and St James' Park and get the right results as CHAMPIONS 2005/06. COME ON CHELS!! 40 YEARS A BLUE!
