When you’re not ready it’s obvious.
The new season is 4 weeks away, the squad is still under resourced. We have been told that new arrivals are imminent, nobody comes. We have been linked with some interesting signings but there are no sign of them. It’s gone from being amusing to concerning. What is going on?

Ruined
We are all distracted by the World Cup. It offered a respite from the trials and tribulations at Rovers. Yet in a way the tournament reminds us that the modern game is being changed in ways that aren’t healthy. The international stuff reflects some of the worst aspects at club level.

We know what you’ll be doing next season.
The first sign that life is returning to normal is the release of the football fixtures. Gone are the weeks of wondering who you will be watching beat us, and on which dates. The list is confirmed. It looks daunting, given the absence of players and the fact that some of the catering staff might have to play.

Getting Thumped - The World Cup Cometh
It’s back again, this time in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The northern and southern neighbours are portrayed as having a walk-on role. This is really an American, not Pan-American, World Cup.

DC not JC
The new king is proclaimed: Darrell Clarke. The man to take us forward has to be a miracle worker, in much the same way as JC. It’s not clear what the club’s finances are like and, with the takeover still unconfirmed, we need to assume that there isn’t much more available.

Pep’s not coming
On Sunday Manchester City’s manager will stand in a dugout for the last time. I cannot claim any great affection for him, even if his trophy haul is enough to make the rest of us feel faintly inadequate. What follows for Pep is anyone’s guess, but it will not be Tranmere. A pity, really, because Pep at Prenton Park is the sort of alliteration that deserves at least a trial run.

That was the season that was
We are promised that the owners will undertake an end of season review to establish ‘what went wrong’. A similar review was undertaken at the end of last season. That’s two seasons where things have been off kilter. This is my own review of the season.

Endings
The sun will rise again. The World Cup beckons, albeit I am not sure who in the current squad will be on the plane. We can all take a deep breath and spend the next few months getting excited by a takeover that will happen 1. By the start of the season of 2. By the January transfer window of 3. Before the final game. At some point we will appoint a new manager, and they will probably be given their marching orders around Valentine’s Day. This is the club that is Tranmere Rovers.

Tough week ahead, but respect each other please
Rovers have a very important week ahead and emotions are bound to run high. However, it is imperative that people show respect to each other. Fine to disagree but recent weeks have seen an increase in name calling and poor behaviour.
