All the News and Statistics ahead of the visit of Northampton Town to Prenton Park on Monday afternoon in Coca-Cola League One as Rovers look to continue on a decent home win against Rotherham by recording another!

Its Northampton this week for Tranmere, as they look to continue on what was a good home win over Rotherham last week.  Northampton are just 3 points away from the relegation spots and are battling to avoid the drop, on the other hand Tranmere are just 1 point out of the promotion spots but with a game in hand.

 

Earlier this season saw Rovers beat Northampton 3-1 away from home thanks to 2 first half goals from Calvin Zola (14) and Gareth Taylor (35)  and a second half penalty from John Mullin (58), a Scott McGleish goal (74) was only a consolation for the home side. 

 

While it would seem that Northampton would be pushovers away considering this result but their away record suggests otherwise, having only been beaten twice away from home this season against Scunthorpe and Oldham.  The recent appointment of Stuart Gray as full time manager will also raise spirits in the camp as the team will be looking for a strong first game under their new boss.

 

Northampton have managed 2 wins 7 draws and 2 losses away from home making them the away draw specialists of league one, something Tranmere will hope to return by beating the cobblers.  Having managed just 6 win all season it is no surprise they are in the relegation scrap but 10 draws has meant they have just enough points to stay above the drop zone.  Their best win off the season came away at Swansea as they beat them 1-0.  Its worth noting that Northampton have scored just 18 goals this year the lowest tally in the league while conceding 25.  Rovers have scored 32 and conceded 22.

 

Tranmere are sure to be starting with on loan goalkeeper Joe Hart after he impressed during the win over Rotherham while Tranmere may welcome back Sam Aiston back to Prenton Park.

 

Every game is important for Rovers as they look to keep the pressure on the leading pack and get back into the promotion spots while Northampton look to solidify their place in League 1.

Tranmere will continue with Manchester City loanee Joe Hart in goal because Gavin Ward (thigh) and John Achterberg (ankle) are unfit although Ward is expected to make the bench as he did last Monday.

Jason McAteer is a week away from full training and youngster Olly James (foot) is two weeks away from training.

Town will be have Sean Dyche (groin) and Scott McGleish (calf) available  for Stuart Gray's first game in charge of the Club.
