Tranmere Rovers v Doncaster Rovers Match Preview

It’s the return of Gareth Roberts, Jason Price and everyone’s favourite Sean Thornton this week. Although Gareth Roberts has been injured recently and good old Sean Thornton is failing to make the bench meaning the two could be doubtful to start although Jason Price may start.

Doncaster have been doing well lately and this upturn in form has saw Sean O’Driscoll receive the manager of the month award as they now occoupy 8^th place directly above Tranmere on goal difference.

Doncaster have scored the same number of goals as Tranmere but have conceded 4 less leaving them slightly ahead of Tranmere meaning a win for either side would see them go 3 points clear of the other team.

Towards the start of the season Tranmere drew 0-0 with Doncaster as the old Belle Vue ground, they have since moved to the Keepmoat stadium.

Last season’s matches saw a 2-0 home defeat to Doncaster and a 2-0 away win.  Tranmere’s goals coming from Davies and Jennings while netting for Doncaster where Guy and Roberts.

Doncaster started the campaign quite poorly considering they had been touted as promotion candidates, if not automatic promotion candidates.  With just 2 wins in their first 12 matches it looked as though they may be battling against the drop.  An upturn in results from mid November to the present has seen them rise up the table into playoff contention having won 8 of their last 12 matches.

It could be an interesting game as the play-of contenders emerge and disappear and it will be important for Tranmere to carve out a result in what will be a tough game.  Get behind the lads and enjoy the game.
