Reports today suggest that Tranmere are in the hunt to sign Liverpool’s young defender Godwin Antwi on loan in time for the start of next season as the hunt for new recruits goes on at Prenton Park. So far Rovers have only signed one player since the season finished.
Rovers Chase Liverpool Star Antwi for Loan Deal
While the transfer news remains thin on the ground at Prenton Park this week, there are still a number of players being identified as potential targets for Ronnie Moore's 2008/09 season plans.
The latest name to surface is Liverpool defender Godwin Antwi whom Rovers are believed to be interested in for a loan deal over the water.
Godwin Antwi is a Reported Target for Rovers
The 20 year-old Ghana-born centre back who began his career as a youth player at Real Zaragoza was also being tracked by Chester City and is also believed to be interesting Accrington Stanley with whom he spent two months on loan at the end of the 2006/07 season.
Most recently on loan at League One rivals Hartlepool for most of last season, making 33 appearances, Antwi has not broken into the Liverpool side and may take another loan deal next season if the offer comes his way.
Elsewhere today another reported Rovers target - ex Man Utd youth player Ritchie Jones - joined Hartlepool United after interest from both Rovers and Scottish Premier League side Hearts.
If we are chasing a defender does this increase the chances (as suggested on here earlier in the summer) that Kay will be playing centre midfield next season?
Wouldn't be a bad signing at all. Captain for the Liverpool Reserves, first team experience with Accrington Stanley & Hartlepool. Can play in midfield and has played up front. Could be the new Georges Santos?
All short term, short term, short term...........
then this time next season we'll be sweatin over why its so late and we haven't replaced our season long loan signings!!
we need to sort our selves out. Why has football turned out this way?
What happened to loans for replacing injured players as apposed to the way the system is working now?
P.S i too am purplexed as to why we are looking for another defender? i'm not saying it isn't needed but we have half a squad to replace before we should be looking for defenders surely? or am i crazy?
Hes played 130 games in four years which is pretty good.
Besides, we of all fans should know not to judge a player on how many games he has played. Davies played what, about 50 games in 3 years? Does that make him a bad player?

I think that we do need a couple of defenders and getting someone like Antwi might be a good way to go as he would presumably be relatively cheap.
If we were to sign say Curtis as well then we would have 6 defenders meaning cover in all positions across the back four and, as others have said, Kay and Edds could be free to play in midfield.
Id say currently our defence is the strongest part of the team. Ronnie said once the season was over that we didnt score enough goals, especially from midfield. Now I can't see Kay as a goal scoring midfielder, he will get his fair share, but is more defensive minded. I still feel we need an attacking midfielder.
Yeah I've seen him play, against Morecambe at home and Doncaster away, in both games I thought he was terrible especially agaisnt Morecambe. I know you shouldn't judge players too early but Adnan Ahmed will not be the solution in midfield, although I'd love to be proved wrong.

Perhaps Ahmed would have been better against Doncaster if he wasn't kicked to shreds and got some protection from referee Gavin Ward, who we all know is the worst referee in the football league. I rememeber a tackle on Ahmed that day that was one of the worst I've seen and we didn't even get a free kick - the ball was well gone and the Donny player came in and just kicked Ahmed in the knee. The referee saw it as well.
He played well that day anyway I thought, was very good at Luton and by all accounts was MOTM at Swansea whilst away at Oldham he looked decent when he came on.
I think he deserves a chance this year anyway, he's done very well in the reserves, bagging a number of goals from long range including a couple of free-kicks.
Saw this fella play right back for us a few times. An abosolutely dreadful player. His distribution was poor, he looked suspect, and he was dreadful as he didn't venture beyond the first third of the pitch.
I for one really hope we don't sign him.
As for Kay - isn't he off this season anyway? I really hope not.
didn't we ship him out to Hereford... and look what happened to them!
Pullis seems to have a good relationship with us and Ryan appears to be thoroughly enjoying his time here.. i think we'll sign Shots till xmas again on a loan deal.
