Tranmere Rovers Vs. Charlton Ath. - Match Discussion Thread
By MikeyB August 28 2009
Throughout the season we will provide you with a platform to discuss each and every Rovers match whether it be the build-up to kick-off or post match analysis so here we bring you the Match Discussion thread for Saturday Afternoons Coca Cola League One match against Charlton Athletic. Use this thread to discuss anything to do with the Rovers game or any other Carling Cup scores during the match.
Tranmere R Vs Charlton Ath.
Kick-Off 3.00pm at Prenton Park
For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.
The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match anaylsis.
Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.
Tranmere host Charlton Athletic in Coca Cola League One this afternoon, so if you're not going to the game, why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.
Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.
You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores in the Carling Cup as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

My god this is depressing. I am in America and tune in to the matches every week. We sound woeful and that is being kind. If it carries on like this we are heading down. We leak goals for fun and don't score any. Didn't want Barnes in the first place and deep down I had a feeling this would happen. He has to go quickly before its too late. And to think I have a season ticket waiting when I get back.
Absolutely shocking, huge changes need to be made to this club or it'll be hello League Two. If PJ wants to sell this club he is gonna have to hold his hands up and admit he was wrong, something which he'll gain some respect back for.
As I said earlier today, I feared we we leak goals today! I was hoping to be proved wrong, but that again was a terrible performance.
I appreciate that we have played MK Dons, Leeds and Charlton in our last 3 league games, and I imagine they're going to be up there at the end of the season, but we just don't look interested at the moment.
Barnes has been going on about how much we're giving the ball away in recent matches - the reason? These players aren't used to playing the passing game. Big changes need to happen in my opinion or we'll be staring league two in the face, come May.
In his programme notes Barnes said that he thinks the players will adapt to the style of football he wants to play, this may be true, but my question is when? By the time they adapt, we could be in serious trouble in terms of league position.
Did you hear Barnes when interviewd by Radio Merseyside post match ? He couldn't thing of anything to say until he eventually talked his usual waffle.
It is going to be so awful for him post match thoughout the season, that I don't see how he can stick it out.
THe one thing he did mention was the lack of money and no chance of bringing anyone in, if i recall rightly.
Something needs to be directed Johnson's way .
I thought that training affair was a disgraceful use of fans who were needed there for a purpose as Barnes was highlighted. It also was indicvative of Johnson's concern.
Well , Johnson's sheme has flopped without question, surely? So where from here ?
Roll on The Masters, but no chance there in future.
"Maybe the players don't believe they are good enough but I believe they are good enough. " "We haven't got the personnel to play the long ball game. " "In terms of how we want to play, that's got nothing to do... with us conceding goals."
Seriously!? He hasn't got a @#$%& clue!!! We are conceding goals because we are giving the ball away. Why are we giving the ball away? Because we are trying to play like Brazil. Get him out now
The thing is we aren't trying to play Brazil - watching the game, its fairly simple stuff really just some basic passing moves - there's nothing terribly extravagent. Its stuff any professional should be able to do a hell of a lot better than they managed today.
Its looking like the players aren't division 1 standard unfortunately.
This is awful. Not only are they not confident playing against good teams but they have no system to speak of. Ronnie Moore used to play the same team all the time, but he expected effort. I bon't think Barnes is going to knock a newv team into shape.

We are becoming a laughing stock. I left the match early cos I had to go to work but unfortunately didn't miss any of the goals. Barnes and his red Wirralian mate have to GO!!
Obviously at the time of the defeat I was watching wild Lions feeding in Africa but we have just played the two teams that could be top of the League by the end of the season.
That's not an excuse for not beating them or putting up a fight but let's see how the next five game (Carlisle, Walsall, Exeter, Colchester and Wycombe) go before making any further judgement.
The midfield is awful and we need three changes there (if we have the personnel to make those changes). If he doesn't do that soon then his sacking will be his own fault.
Perhaps in future those people (and there were many) who wouldn't back Ronnie Moore 12-18 months ago will think more before opening their mouths to criticise. This current situation is teaching them a lesson that's for sure.
