By Deadly Submarine
December 30 2009
Ahead of Sunday night’s FA Cup third round tie between Tranmere and Wolves at Prenton Park which is to be screened live on the FA Website in front of the nation, Total Tranmere’s Deadly Submarine caught up with a Wolves supporting friend to renew old rivalries and obtain a Wolves Fan’s view on the game ahead.....

As Rovers and Wolves prepare to do battle in the third round of the FA Cup at Prenton Park on Sunday evening in a game being screened live on the FA Website, Total Tranmere's Deadly Submarine caught up with his Wolves supporting University friend to renew rivalries from years ago so here we bring the pre-match views of Coventry based Wolves fan Matt Dyer....
What is Your Name and How Old are You?
Matt Dyer, 29
How Long Have You Supported Your Team and What Made You Choose Them?
All my life - first game at a guess was 1987. Reason why? My Dad and Grandad supported them. Originally they lived in Shropshire which was a Wolves hotbed, and when my Grandad was a fan originally in the 1950's, Wolves were known as the best club in England and arguably the world.
YOUR CLUB
What are Your Views on the Current Manager?
He can be stubborn, but he's a top Manager. Just look at where Wolves were when he took over (a right mess under Hoddle and lost a lot of players, Miller, Lescott, Naylor etc).
If you could have one past Player back in his prime who would you have and why?
This is tough. In my lifetime it's probably a toss-up between Keane, Lescott or Bully (Steve Bull), but Bully gets the nod because he scored over 300 goals for us. A legend!!
What is your Greatest Memory from supporting your Club?
Very tough. The play-off final win at the Millennium Stadium over Sheffield United, and probably the day we won promotion last season and the pitch invasion at the final whistle. The win at Tottenham a couple of weeks ago was brilliant too. 2009 has unquestionably been the best year of my Wolves supporting life.
If you were in charge at your Club as Manager or Chairman what changes would you make?
None, I like what the club is about. Maybe sell Elokobi and Mairhoefer and keep Keogh away from the first 11.
What expectations do your team's fans seem to have for this season?
It's all about finishing 17th or above, and I think we can do it.
AWAY DAYS
What are the Best and Worst Away Grounds you've Visited to date and why?
Wembley and the Millennium Stadium, but club wise (and I've been to about 60 odd) - I'd probably say the City of Manchester Stadium, I'm yet to go to the Emirates - that looks good. Worst Stadium is Stockport - horrible open end. Portsmouth - that's rubbish for the Premier League. Oxford's old Manor Ground - horrible!!
Have you visited Prenton Park before and if so, what are your views?
Yep, I've been a couple of times to see Tranmere, it's not really fair to compare it to Molineux or Premier League grounds, but I've been to Walsall, Swindon, Stockport and a few other grounds like that and Prenton Park is better than those grounds. An old fashioned football stadium. Be prepared for the "My Garden Shed" chants from the travelling fans - guaranteed! Sorry!!
LEAGUE ONE
Who do you think will be Promoted/Relegated from League One this Season?
Leeds, Charlton and Norwich (maybe Southampton as an outside bet!).
Where do you think your Team will finish this season?
16th.
Where do you think Tranmere will finish this season in League One?
You'll stay up I think. How about 18th?
GENERAL
On past experience, what are your views on Tranmere as a Club?
Seems like a nice friendly family Club.
THE MATCH VS TRANMERE
Who is your Team's Man to Watch this Season and for this game?
If he's playing - Kevin Doyle, followed by Serbian, Nenad Milijas and the two time Championship Golden Boot - Sylvan Ebanks Blake.
Your Prediction for the Game Vs Tranmere?
Depends what team we put out, either way it'll be close. Lets say 1-1 and a replay, with Wolves winning the replay 2-0.
Any other comments to add?
Whatever the result, good luck for the rest of the season!
Keep up the good work supporting your team. Football isn't all about supporting the top clubs in the Premier League. You guys are REAL football fans! And believe me, when you taste a bit of success, it'll taste so much sweeter!!
Thanks to Matt for taking part in this interview for Total Tranmere. I'll see you in the Mersey Clipper for a pint before the game and good luck to Wolves for the rest of the season although hopefully not in the FA Cup.
