Rovers left-back signs new one-year deal with club

HEADERNEW - breakingnews

Tranmere Rovers left-back Zoumana Bakayogo has today signed a new one-year contract with the club, keeping him at Prenton Park until June 2011.

The French born defender joined Tranmere in October 2009 and made his debut in Les Parry's first game as manager of the club, a 1-0 defeat against Stockport County live on Sky Sports.

Following his debut, the former Millwall and Paris Saint-Germain player then went on to make the left-back position his own at the club, becoming an important player in the first team and making 34 appearances.

Over those 34 appearances, Bakayogo went on to become a firm fan favourite too, with his always wholehearted performances and frequent runs up and down the left earning up second place in the Player of the Season voting, despite having not been at the club at the start of the season.

This contract is Bakayogo's third and longest deal since joining the club.  His initial contract with at Prenton Park expired in January 1st, but Tranmere successfully negotiated a deal with the defender that saw him stay until the end of the 2009/10 season.

Bakayogo's re-signing means that five of the six players Les Parry offered new contracts too in the summer have stayed, with Jack MacKreth, John Welsh, Marlon Broomes and Ryan Fraughan also signing new deals.

Defender Ashton Taylor has also extended his contract with the club, whilst Rovers have signed Timothy Cathalina and Joss Labadie.

at least two forwards and a goalkeeper should do it
but still.....

I'm surprised not more people have commented on this. Zoum's signature is a massive win for us, he's a very good player at this level and would certainly walk into teams of at least half of this league, if not more. I suspect if he hadn't signed we'd have had more comments.

The only downside of him signing is that Cressa will have limited opportunities....unless of course we play Cress as a left winger? If I recall rightly he has played there once or twice before. It would also take some pressure off strengthening midfield.

Im happy that he has signed he proved himself last season as a good player.

I still think we need about 6 players in consisting of a goalkeeper, a centre half, centre mid a winger and 2 centre forwards if the budget can stretch this far.

With all the negativiity - good to see a lot of players choosing to stay here with only curran leaving.

no loss there frees up the budget in my opinion

It will only have freed up a small amount though. Craig came through our youth system and when he signed his last contract I can't imagine he was on anything big as he wasn't established in our first team. Probably only enough to cover signing an unproven youngster released by a club in our league

he was on about 500/600 a week and considering ian goodison is only on 750 as he split his wage by 50 percent to help the club curran on alot of money

Where do you get your figures for Craig's wages from? There's no way he was on that much when, as I say, he only signed his contract as a second year professional who was very much in and out of the team

If you've got a reliable source, then put your money where your mouth is and tell us who it is. If s/he's reliable, then you can make these claims without any need to worry.

As if you just stumbled onto a sheet with their wages though.. thats really personal and private information and not something that will just be left on a sheet behind the bar of Aldos.
