Rovers offer skipper new one-year deal
Tranmere Rovers boss Les Parry has today revealed that influential captain Ian Thomas-Moore has been offered a new one-year contract at the club.
Thomas-Moore, who's current deal expires at the end of the 2010/11 season, handed in a transfer request ten days ago after Rovers refused to offer him a new deal.
However, today Tranmere have sent the captain a "written" contract including the one-year extension that Thomas-Moore wanted, with Rovers hoping to sort the deal this week.
Thomas-Moore is a key player for Rovers, with the striker finishing the clubs leading scorer last season with 15 goals, whilst he has already netted once this season.
Boss Les Parry revealed that Tranmere have offered Thomas-Moore the contract on the terms he asked for and that he is hopeful for the striker signing.
Tranmere boss Les Parry also revealed that striker Lucas Adkins, currently on trial with the club, will be offered a contract with the club if he impressed for the reserves tomorrow night.
The former Huddersfield and Hamilton forward will play alongside other Ryan Fraughan, Adam McGurk, Kayleden Brown, Max Blanchard and Zoumana Bakayogo in the game against Macclesfield Town at Cammell Laird tomorrow night.
Meanwhile, Les Parry has also revealed there is also money for Rovers to bring in another player or two before August 31st, with the Tranmere boss hoping to make a couple of new additions to his squad before the transfer window slams shut.

Great news! If it is on the terms Ian has asked for, then surely he is going to sign the contract? I hope so.
Did Les mention anything about Eugene Dadi, does anybody know?

Les has said this is what Ian wants, so I'd be surprised if he did turn it down.

Aren't you a Rotherham fan? Wouldn't you lot be really annoyed if RM had publicly announced he was trying to sign a player etc when really he was just trying to help him get a new contract?

There is no way a player of Ian Thomas-Moore's calibre would want to leave for a league two side. He's a Tranmere fan, this is his dream club, he's said so himself.
This whole episode came about when we decided that we didn't want to negotiate a new contract until Christmas. Then, Ian handed a tranfers request to speed up the process and to keep the board on it's toes.
Ronnie has saw the transfer request, and made a bid (not to mention the illegal approach...), which was rejected.
Now, Ian has been offered the contract he has wanted all along, and he will continue to be the heart and soul of our club.
Ronnie's bid was not the catalyst for his transfer request, but rather a reaction.
Who do Rotherham think they are? Reading their forums and message boards, they disgard Ian Thomas-Moore as "too old", and seem to think that their club is too big for him. Don't make me laugh!
NEWSFLASH: IAN THOMAS-MOORE IS FAR BETTER THAN ANY PLAYER IN LEAGUE TWO, INCLUDING ADAM LE FONDRE, AND ROTHERHAM UNITED FRANKLY HAVE NO CHANCE OF SIGNING HIM!

I don't know. Andy parkinson plays for Accrington now, he might be able to stake a claim to being better than Moore

Being objective.
If we were being linked with paying a transfer fee for a player aged nearly 34 who had scored about 10 goals in open play in the championship last season would you be enthausiastic?
I wouldn't be.
Take away the emotion of a former home grown player with over 100 odd games for us and its a different story entirely.
He's a decent lower division player - maybe be a very good player at league 2 level but certainly wouldn't be too good for them or the division.

That is a shrewd analysis but he is also too good for us loose for we would almost certainly recruit someone of lesser quality

Well said Devon too good to loose he must sign if offered a good contract that suits him,his family and the board. Poor dad Ronnie will have to wait give him 2 years at least.

He might have scored 13 goals in all competitions, but it's also about his contribution in other ways, like assists / key passes.
He's not too good for league 2, but he's also more than good enough for Tranmere and with his added assistance in creating goals not just scoring them, plus if the team had had one or two slightly more creative players last season, he could have scored more.
Given the difficulty of Tranmeres overall situation, I think his contributions are beyond questiob.
Had Tranmere had a team capable of even what a team like Brentford achieved, Moore what have been able to give a greater contribution, than the considerable one he gave anyway.
Tranmere CAN stay up this season and CAN do better. Rotherham might have been a playoff team in league 2, but that does not mean they could get a top 7 again and if they did come up, stay up as well.
Though they will be a favoured team to achieve promotion in League 2.

Firstly Ronnie Moore must hate Johnstone and the Tranmere Board for the way he was treated after the 08-09 season so I'm sure he enjoyed making the bid for Ian and stirring things up at Prenton Park. If I was Ian I wouldn't think much of Johnstone either as I'm sure he is loyal to his dad.
Secondly, Ian and his Dad seem quite close. Not many 30 plus year olds would want to follow their father around with their career. Ian seems quite happy to do that so they must get on and I'm sure they talk to each other about stuff all the time. So lets not kid ourselves and think that Ian would put loyalty to Tranmere above that of his father - so it wouldn't surprise me if there is more to this than Ian getting another year on his Tranmere contract.
I hope he stays. He gives 100%, is professional and respects the Tranmere fans. I have a feeling he doesn't have complete respect for Les. It would be hard to when you know a physio is doing your dad's job.
Anyway - time will tell.

will Ian be in a similar feeling to curran in that he wants to play as a striker and not stuck on the wing?? could this be a reason for him considering a move? just a thought
