Tranmere make their second signing in as many days

Article Header - Breaking News

Tranmere Rovers have today completed the signing of 23-year old Joe Thompson from Rochdale.  The winger joins the club on a two-year contract and signs from the League Two club for an undisclosed fee.

Thompson, Tranmere's second summer signing from Rochdale following the arrival of forward Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, is a product of the Rochdale youth system and made his debut for the Spotland club on the final day of the 2005/06 season against Carlisle United.

Over the past six years, he has gone on to become an integral part of the club under former boss Keith Hill, featuring 13 times as the club reached the play-off final in 2008 before being a first team regular as Rochdale gained promotion from League Two in 2009/10.

In total, Thompson made 157 appearances for Rochdale, so despite being just 23-years old, he comes to Prenton Park an experienced player.  He also netted 17 goals during his spell with Dale, though only one of these came in League One last season.

Thompson is Tranmere's second signing in as many days following the arrival of Jake Cassidy on loan from Wolves yesterday and goes straight into Rovers' squad for their friendly against Fleetwood Town on Saturday.  He is a direct replacement for Lucas Akins, who left Tranmere for an undisclosed fee on Thursday to join Stevenage Town, with some of the money from the sale of Akins used to purchase Thompson.

Started slowly today and didn't really get into it but his set pieces particularly corners, were excellent which makes a welcome change from the John Welsh corners!
