Promise of 2022?

New Year is always a time for optimism, and a 4-0 win at home against Scunny sets the tone for the games ahead. I've never been sure why the turning of the pages of a calendar have such significance, but they do. Added to this, the transfer window is open again. We always make better signings in January, it's as if you Mam sends you to the supermarket in August and you buy all the wrong stuff, but in January she sends you with a proper list so you come home with the stuff you need.

There is a fantasy doing the rounds that Nors is coming back. Now I loved Jamie when he played for us, he was brilliant, worked really hard and banged balls into the back of the net. I just can't see him coming to us, not when he seems to be getting starts and goals for the tractor boy's. Stranger things have happened, the fact that we managed to pull off the signing of Aldo shows this, but this happened before I was born and football is now a very different world. It's unlikely.

On me Mam's shopping list are a striker, a midfielder and cover in central defence. The striker I got in January, Maynard, has been crocked, and the people at customer services won't give us a credit note for a new one. Currently there is no obvious candidate but we're looking. I just hope that new £400K investment doesn't burn a whole in our pocket. Still think we are looking in the Aldi bargain baskets, not Waitrose. As for Midfield, Jay is doing well, but we need a midfield enforcer, a ball winner who can control the game. I thought we had some of these but I guess you can't have too many, and Morris needs some additional support, but hoping the club give him a contract extension. Then at the back, the enigma that is Peter Clarke, will not run forever. We need a bit more cover, just to give us confidence. Oh, and a goalie of course. Now that Scotty has retired we're looking a bit thin in that Department.

if we get this right the next 5 months are going to be brilliant. We're playing good football and confidence is growing. If we get it wrong, well, all I'm saying is I'm not going down to the Asda to look for players to play in this division next season.
