Football Gone Wrong

Wrexham, Tranmere’s next hosts in League 1, were dealt a further blow on Thursday with the news that the clubs’ appeal against their 10 point deduction had failed, meaning that their troubled position in League 1 will not change and a fight against relegation will continue.

Wrexham had appeared to be fairly confident that at least some of the points that had been deducted towards the end of 2004, would be re-instated with their main argument for the appeal based on the ITV Digital fiasco when all Football League Clubs lost revenue from the collapse of the stricken TV company. Coupled with this crisis Wrexham have been locked in a battle with Chairman Alex Hamilton who has since resigned from the position but remains the owner of the clubs stadium and has given the club notice to quit their Racecourse Ground home in July.

The appeal is also thought to have cost Wrexham FC around £20,000 which is money that they could ill afford to part with - some of the cost coming from donations. It would appear though that the argument that Wrexham put forward at the appeal was not seen to be good enough to avoid the 10 point deduction and Wrexham now face a hard battle against relegation starting with a relegation battle away at Peterborough next Tuesday night before Tranmere visit the Racecourse on Saturday 15 January and kick off at 3pm.

To add to the woes at the Racecourse, first choice goalkeeper Andy Dibble has been ruled out for the rest of January at least after getting injured in the 4-0 reverse at Sheffield Wednesday on Monday and their only reserve at the moment is a 16 year old who has never played for the first team.
