Total Tranmere Player of the Season Awards Results

Iain Hume has scooped the Total Tranmere Player of the Season Award after two weeks of voting by the readers of Total Tranmere. Hume polled 34% of the overall votes and was run relatively close for the award by Gareth Roberts and Mark Rankine. There were also awards for Ryan Taylor and Paul Hall.
With the website being just short of six months old, this was the first time these awards have been run and we decided to have awards for three different categories and below is a run through of who won which award and how we feel they have performed this season to warrant such an accolade.
Total Tranmere Player of the Season – IAIN HUME

Our Player of the Season vote went along with that of the Official Tranmere Fans Award as Striker Iain Hume scooped the prize after some close competition from his team-mates. Iain polled 34% of the 35 votes cast and was run close by Tranmere Players Player of the Season Award winner Mark Rankine and consistent player Gareth Roberts.
Iain is Tranmere’s top scorer for the 2004-05 season with 16 goals in all competitions during Tranmere’s climb to an ultimate third place and a spot in the play-offs. His last goal came in the 2-1 win away at Sheffield Wednesday in April.
He is often capable of scoring almost from nowhere and would certainly have been missed if he had not turned down a move to Preston North earlier in the season, another decision that has earned him popularity amongst Rovers fans.
Young Player of the Season – RYAN TAYLOR

With respect to the other four candidates in the category of Young Player of the Season, there was only going to be one winner in right back Ryan Taylor as the poll results show in the fact that Taylor polled a massive 71% of the vote. The consistency of Taylor throughout the season makes him fully deserving of the award particularly for his good performances but also for the fact that he has weighed in with nine goals this season in all competitions, mainly from set-pieces.
The most memorable goal from Ryan during this season is probably his wonderfully struck free-kick against Hull City at Prenton Park that put Rovers 1-0 up before Hull’s fight back. He has also scored similar free-kicks against Swindon and Peterborough as well as penalties against Oldham, Hartlepool, Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford. However his consistent performances at right back or right wing-back for Rovers have been the key to him winning this award.
Brian Little’s Best Signing – PAUL HALL

Our final award is one that applies mainly to this season but also goes back to the middle of last season to cover the whole of Brain Little’s Rovers reign so far as we ask who has been Little’s best signing taking charge of Rovers in November 2003?
The winner is another deserving player in Paul Hall who despite polling no votes as Player of the Season for this season, polled 33% of the 30 votes cast in this category to take the award. Hall joined Rovers on transfer deadline day in 2004 and impressed enough to earn a full contract for the start of the 2004-05 season.
Hall has played both on his more natural right-sided midfield position but also as a striker alongside Iain Hume. Hall has scored 12 goals in all competitions this season and has been influential in many more with his crossing and his ability to make a chance from very little.
